From what I understand, this is such a rare occurrence in Australia that the entire nation is obsessing over it (perhaps our resident Aussies can confirm/deny this). Over here, in America, it would probably garner a few hours on national television and nothing more. So sad.

I've never seen more publicised news or social media activity over a single event before this. It's extremely upsetting. This is the same block that Lansbury performed Driving Miss Daisy here.

My heart goes out to the victims, the hostages and their families. A truly horrific day. Sydney for me has lost it's innocence and strong feeling of safety and security. I will lay down a rose in Martin Place for them.
