During my trip to NYC in January, there's a benefit reading of "Things We Want" on Monday the 5th. Currently, I've got Rock of Ages pencilled in to that slot, but I'm intrigued by the reading because of Peter Dinklage. Also, I'm under 30 so I could get a ticket for only $50, which is certainly less than what ROA would cost.

Can anyone offer any insight into these types of events - namely, whether you've found them to be "worth it" but also just generally what they're like? Obviously it's a different experience than seeing an actual production.

And also, if anyone has any thoughts about the play itself, I'd appreciate it. I searched the board and found some of the threads from when it was playing a few years ago, and it seemed to get mixed reactions from posters and reviewers alike. Thanks all!

I saw the original production of Things We Want, featuring the entire original cast that's reuniting for the reading, and it was one of the worst plays I've ever seen. Boring, pedantic, woe-is-me navel-gazing from a bunch of loser characters. None of the acting was bad, but the play itself stank.
