Anybody know anything about/been to the new "Row Hotel" on 8th and 44th, which seems to be the renovated Milford Plaza? It wasn't the greatest place before, I was just wondering if it's stepped up the quality any since the reno.
The rooms are still small and the lobby always plays ridiculously loud music. The renovations are an obvious attempt to be more hip and young to compete with the likes of W, but I will say they are definitely an improvement over the hotel's former persona. If they'd just tone down the obnoxious lobby, it would be a very pleasant place to stay.

This is where I have been staying the past few years anytime I come to NYC. I haven’t always had great customer service (never anything that has been truly detrimental, just not always the friendliest people) and the rooms are small (but, really, I’m only ever in the room to shower and sleep), but everything is clean, it’s close to all of the theatres, the beds are comfy, and it’s almost always the cheapest hotel in the area. I think it’s a really excellent deal for the price.
Many many years ago David Letterman did his show from a room at the Milford Plaza. He pointed out a sign on the door of the room that said "Helen Hayes Suite", and he said "Miss Hayes' favorite beverage is Orange Crush, if the empty cans under the bed are any indication."
I stayed at the Row this past June and loved it. Sure the rooms are small, but isn't every hotel room in NYC? I was just at the hotel to sleep and take a shower. Other than that, there's too much to do in NYC to hang around the hotel. My biggest criteria when choosing a hotel in NYC is that it is clean, affordable, accessible to Times Square and bug and rodent free! The Row definitely met all criteria and was a nice place to stay.
