I don't care how early in the season it is, or how many or few performances we've seen, I wanna know can Kelli O'Hara ride this overdue wave to a victory next June? Who is her biggest competition: Kristin Chenoweth, Laura Michelle Kelly (is Neverland transferring?), whoever plays Mona in Whorehouse... Anyone else?
How could any of us know this when we haven't seen any of the performances? Silly But no, I don't think Kelli can win a tony by just having the overdue factor. If someone is better than her, then well...
@Musicaldudepeter, unfortunately the answer is no. And I know this cause this board's foremost expert on Kelli O'Hara, the Tonys and Musicals in general, a guy by the name of Musicaldudepeter posted this thoughtful analysis back in June. You can argue with him if you want, but he really seems to have thought it out carefully. If you do decide to argue with him, let us know please so we can watch.

Anna is a great role, but Gertrude Lawrence won the Tony because of who she was and because it was a new show, and she was the star; Donna Murphy won by default 'cause Julie Andrews declined her nomination... Leading me to believe that it is not a strong enough role to win a best actress Tony (in MY opinion). Kristin may be unbeatable in On the Twentieth Century, or indeed, someone fresh and new may come along a la Jessie Mueller and have a better role. Anna is a gorgeous part, but, much like Nellie Forbush, it wouldn't really come out on top in an award category unless it was the best of a weak bunch. It isn't as flashy as Mrs. Lovett, Rose, Miss Adelaide, etc. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I don't know when Kelli will finally get her Tony."
As of now, the competition looks to be: Kristen Chenoweth Erin Davie/Emily Padgett Laura Michelle Kelly (if she stays with 'Finding Neverland') Kelli O'Hara Whoever will be starring in 'Fun Home'
We don't even know if 'Best Little Whorehouse' will be coming in this season yet. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing it in the 2015-16 season along with 'Fiddler on the Roof' and (possibly) 'Miss Saigon'.
I'm beginning to hope she doesn't, just so the OP can start more threads lamenting her snub.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Best little whorehouse is looking at a 2016 bow so count that out. I totally agree with Jeffrey's predictions. I think its gonna be: Kelli O'hara-The King and I Kristin Chenoweth-On the Twentieth Century Erin Davie/Emily Padgett-Side Show Whoever plays that little girl from Fun Home Laura Osnes-Dames at Sea (IF it comes this season) If not than I think one of the leading ladies in Dr Zhigango, The Last Ship, and Finding Neverland will take the last nomination.
So, given that Anna is one of four musical roles for women to have won more than one Tony, the OP has decided that it has gone from a "won't deserve to win" to a "will definitely win".
2016!? With so many shows hovering from out of town waiting for theaters (that haven't even been given to 2015 shows) I'd be impressed with anyone who could come up with more than 2 names. :)
For 2016: The lead in Sara Bareilles musical, Waitress (Laura Benanti?) Gloria Estefan in On Your Feet (Ariana Grande?) Mona in whorehouse Esmeralda in Hunchback (Ciara Rene?) Danielle de Barbarac in Ever After (Sierra Boggess?) Kim in Miss Saigon (Eva Noblezada?) Also for 2015, Maybe Kate Baldwin in Can-Can if it comes this season and possibly Vanessa Hudgens in Gigi. Is there a leading actess in An American in Paris?
I don't think it's a super strong season for female leads like it has been in the past. I don't think there's anyone who is a "lock" or any show that is a "lock."
Who knows, maybe King & I will be a hot mess. Maybe Nerds will happen and be amazing, etc.
