After reading the boards for a long time I decided to make an account. I'm from California so NYC trips are usually few and far between however the oppurtunity came up so I'm taking it! I'm going Friday, Saturday and be home on Sunday. I have tickets to see Matilda(Row G Seat 10 in the right orchestra ) and Gentleman's Guide(Mezzanine, Row E seat 8 ) Are those good seats? Also I can see a third show on Friday. We are getting those tickets from the TKTS booth. What show should I see?
Your tickets are great. I would advise adding a play to that list. Maybe The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Nighttime or You Can't Take it with You!
I agree with the Monkey .... Curious Incident first choice, You Can't Take It With You second choice, and maybe Beautiful or Les Mis third choice if you really want it to be a musical. I saw Hedwig, it was very good but NPH is obviously gone so I would lean toward something else.
What kind of shows do you generally like? I mean, personally I love Disney so I'd recommend Aladdin to anyone who loves Disney. But if you like thought-provoking, I'd recommend Cabaret or Curious Incident for a play. If you like classic comedy, then I'd recommend "You Can't Take it With You" for a play, and perhaps "On the Town" for a musical (though I haven't seen either yet). Pippin is really an amazing show, but it's going on tour and depending on where you live in CA, there may be a stop near you. (I know it's going to the Pantages soon). So yeah, more info on your taste would help with recommendations, but either way, I hope you have a great trip! (Being from CA myself, I know it can be a rare treat to go see a show in NYC!)
Beautiful & Aladdin are great choices but rarely at TKTS most days - Friday night never.
I would go see Kinky Boots..so fun. I know it's on the road and will be in CA soon but Billy Porter is here (Kyle is great but the original is the original).
And I loved Matilda and GG so your choices are great (with fabulous seats). Let us know how your weekend goes...
I also suggest Curious Incident or Can't Take It With You or, as suggested, see something off-Broadway. If you are here this month before the 28th, off-Broadway is doing 20@20. 20 bucks a ticket 20 minutes before curtain.
I am seeing the National Tour next week for Pippin. I'm thinking off-Broadwayright now. But Aladdin has good a chances as I know James. I will also look into Curious Incidents. I love plays too it really just depends.
