We're mid-way through season two of this show (which Pivot, a channel I don't think I know any American who gets, is now co-funding,) And I think I'm enjoying it more than ever. Is anyone else watching? The limited US press it's gotten has been full of praise, but trying to describe it as a male "Girls," seems to miss the point completely. Josh Thomas, the out comedian who stars and writes it is someone I would find pretty infuriating to be friends with in real life, but on screen I find him oddly charming, and I look forward to the show every week even as nothing much happens.
Though the show is slightly serialized, it is easy to jump in at the start of Season 2 (which takes place after a bit of a time jump--though this isn't a dreaded time jump of the type Tue Blood or something have had :P Some characters from Season 1 return in various episodes, but the setup is pretty clear. I say this because every episode, up to the one that just aired, seems to be on youtube from Season 2 (I doubt this is official, but who knows--Pivot said they were working hard to just get the show seen.) Episode 1 of this year can be found here:
I don't want to overhype the show--one of the main reasons it's so enjoyable is that it's so low key, but I'm glad others are enjoying it. (It also makes good binge viewing simply because it is so easy to watch, and the runs are so short.)
I hadn't even heard of this until a few weeks ago when I started watching a couple a night on Hulu. I just bought a season pass for season three, because I think this show is excellent.
I love this show, and even bought a season pass for it on iTunes (rather than just pirate it), since it always seems on the verge of cancellation and wanted to help their numbers...
Ah this reminds me I haven't watched this week's yet. I think it just gets better and better--thanks for bumping the thread! It does slowly seem to be gaining an audience and since Pivot helps finance it (not that I think they have much money) now it already is picked up for a fourth season (they ordered two last year) so we're safe for a bit... It is great for Americans (not Canadians) that Hulu carries past seasons now as mentioned.
I came across this show a few weeks ago on Hulu and decided to check it out and absolutely fell in love with it. I have already watched Season's 1 and 2 all the way through twice. I found the first two episodes of season 3 of YouTube but they've since shut the channel down. Pivot has an app and if you are a Dish customer you can watch the current season that way. I wasn't aware that a Season Pass was available in iTunes. I would certainly pay to own it.
Thanks for the recommendation. Watched season 1 earlier this week and just blew through season 2 today. The second season is far better even though the first was great. Too bad Hulu doesn't have the episodes of the latest season so I'm waiting until they air on Pivot (channel 115 on TWC). "Scroggins" was my favorite episode of the series to date. Someone in the Master of None thread mentioned "Mornings" being the best episode of television in years but I'd have to bestow that honor to "Scroggins." It had such a range of emotions and I loved every second of such a simple episode of television.

I have to admit, Josh is my least favourite character on this show... So when I realized it would be Josh-centric, I worried, but his Grindr encounter was probably my favourite episode of the season. I don't think I've ever seen a "hook up" recreated with such humour, but also so many lovely and even moving moments--as this before. I hate the term "relatability" but I could definitely relate--especially with all the intimacy including taking a bath, knowing that this is a one off--as well as the room mates getting in the way. I have a feeling we won't see the last of his pick up, and I hope it doesn't revolve around a standard plot like Arnold getting jealous, but, regardless, an awesome episode.
I don't think it will result in a an Arnold jealousy subplot. I got the impression from the very end with Josh and Arnold together at the coffee cart but the show was making the point that they could have an open relationship and still be happy and in love. I thought it was a funny and moving, almost bittersweet episode. And now I'm all caught up.
I'm all caught up now and while I've really gotten sick of the entire jizzing in their pants about Adele, that send off was perfect. Also perfect was the way

Claire's abortion was handled. The picture line might be one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
Am I the only one who hates Arnold? There are some instances when I like him (singing Chandelier was amazing) but for the most part he rubs me the wrong way. I also really hope that's the last we see of Josh's Grindr hookup but I don't want him to be the death of the season because that would probably annoy me.

Ah but did you notice in that final scene Josh was momentarily distracted by a shirtless guy mid talk with Arnold? Mind you Josh would be distracted by a mosquito flying by so I am prob reading too much into it.
I didn't notice that, but I don't know if that means anything one way or another. Judging by some comments I've read on AV Club, I seem to be the only person who didn't think this was setting up some bigger doom to come, so who knows?
I definitely like Arnold a lot better this season than I did last season. Last season I thought he was so annoying and couldn't understand why Josh was even interested, especially after he had a panic attack on their first two dates.
Every time Josh is talking about his relationship with Arnold (or relationships in general) and the coo coo clock goes off in the background, I feel like it is foreshadowing the return of Geoffrey, which I would absolutely love. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.
Things seemed to be going pretty badly for Geoff when we saw him in Season 2 (I mean they were with Patrick as well but that seemed more just like a dumb, drunk, young gay guy thing to do), so I wouldn't mind at least an update--but I'm not sure he and Josh were a good couple. It seemed very much like a typical first gay boyfriend relationship--if that makes sense. Anyway with 3 episodes left, I don't think he'll be back this season, but maybe season 4?
I like Arnold a lot more this year too--last year he was basically just defined by his mental problems (even if Please Like Me handles those issues exceptionally well).
And a very light casting spoiler for episode 9 I accidentally came across says that...

Grindr guy is back and it involves a hospital. So, I assume, something to do with his aneurysm.
