It's fun checking in and seeing bits I haven't seen in eons and noticing credits like "Consulting Producer Brad Bird."

Are they showing the Twin Towers episode?

I am a little crankier than usual this morning due to sleep deprivation but the lure of Season three was too strong to sleep.

Yes, The City of New York vs Homer Simpson is part of the marathon. It airs Monday the 25th at 3am. The FXX website has a great schedule for the whole marathon.

I wish they had added the shorts from The Tracey Ullman Show to make a true every Simpsons ever marathon.

I believe there's still a bunch of legal issues with showing those shorts. After all this time, you'd think they would have cleared that up.

"I believe there's still a bunch of legal issues with showing those shorts."

Haven't some of them been put on the DVD releases?

Also, I remember the Simpson's Butterfinger commercial from the 90s. They should show that as well.

And while they are at it, Dan appeared on an episode of LA Law as a man who imitated Homer Simpson. Show that too!

But don't show the god-awful Actor's Studio they were on. The second half made them answer questions in their characters which was really lame.

The first Simpsons short is an extra on the season 1 set but that seems to be it. I also saw the Butterfinger commercials listed as an extra on one of the other sets but I forget which season right now. I wouldn't mind seeing the commercials as part of the FXX marathon. They should toss in the ridiculous Do the Bartman video too.

I agree about skipping the Inside the Actors Studio episode. Everyone seemed so awkward and uncomfortable, especially while having to answer as their characters.

"I believe there's still a bunch of legal issues with showing those shorts."
The cynic in me just figured that all the shorts would finally show up on some epic box set when the series finally reached an end and all those legal battles over the rights would magically disappear. It's a shame whatever legal battles are ongoing couldn't be cleared up for the marathon.

I saw my very favorite the other day, "Homers Phobia" with John Waters. But there are so many great lines on the other episodes that I'd forgotten about.

I can't stop watching. And the other day, I heard one of my favorite lines - " Me fail English? That's unpossible!"

It's so perfect when you tune in to catch a favorite line.

It's kind of over the hump now in terms of quality. We're now reaching the seasons where, in my opinion, you started getting more duds than truly memorable episodes (when compared to what I consider the Golden Age of seasons 4 through 9). Though, I will say, even some of the worst episodes of the show are better than some of the dreck that's been produced since (2 and 1/2 Men, I'm looking at you when I make that statement).

@AEA AGMA SM

I do agree with what you're saying. I've always felt that even a very poor episode of The Simpsons is vastly better than some of the bad sitcoms that are being poured out these days.

As for the marathon, I am loving it. And, I can't wait for the every Simpsons episode app that's slated to come out in October. From what I read, you can even search for an episode by your favorite quote and other things like that.

I have been watching this marathon non-stop since last Thursday morning when it began. I've seen about 80%. The ones I've missed were either because it was late and I had to sleep or I had an errand to run or I had guests. It is so good and brings back so many memories. This should be an annual thing, like how MTV shows every episode of Laguna Beach and The Hills every summer. Some episodes I haven't seen in 15 years! Also, this marathon has given me some new perspectives on various characters. Some characters I used to hate I now love and vice versa.

basically been watching this every night. considering the crap that's on TV during this time of year, The Simpsons marathon is the better choice.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Even the worst SIMPSONS episode is better than pretty much anything else ever.

Exactly. People call it unwatchable crap, but it's still a relatively funny sitcom slash extended character piece. A good show no longer at its best is still not a bad show, but people today tend to confuse "jumped the shark" with "past its peak."

I'm a long-time defender of the show on these boards. There are too many people who say it hasn't been good since season 7 and it should have been cancelled a long time ago and when pressed, they admit they haven't watched since the '90s. Which is fine, but I am glad it's still going because they find hilarious new things even in subjects they have visited previously.

In 1989 FOX had a party to kick-off the new half-hour sitcom.

Matt Groening was there and personalizing posters for us.
I'll never forget meeting him, as he had Bart Simpson call out a "Yo Addy " in a speech bubble on the poster.

As we introduced ourselves, he said to me: "My name is Matt Groening. Rhymes with complaining" and then he just laughed and went on to personalize and sign the poster.

I'll never forget it. I have that poster framed.
And have loved the show ever since.

I interviewed him about one of the Life in Hell compilations he released before The Simpsons premiered. This was back when you could call Fox and be patched right through. I asked the person who answered the phone, "Fox/Simpsons" if there were any way I could talk to Matt about "Akbar & Jeff's Guide to Life" and she said she doubted it because he was so busy putting the finishing touches on the first episode but she took my number. Twenty minutes later Matt called me and I told him I would only take up ten minutes of his time and set kitchen timer to go off and promised I would hang up when the bell rang. He was, of course, hilarious and laughed recalling bits from the book in a way that made me find him irresistible. When the bell rang I thanked him profusely and he told me that if any other questions occurred to me, to leave a message and he'd get back to me. Of course, i was tempted, but didn't.

Addy, that poster sounds great. I have a picture of Homer drawn by Dan Castanelleta.

I was in 3rd grade when the show premiered and I remember how all the kids watched it and how our parents HATED it an banned it in some households because it was so crass.

It's funny how if you look at those first season episodes now, they're just so....tame. Very interesting how much things have changed since then.

Jordan, I remember that feeling being in kindergarten and first grade at a school for gifted youth, and being jealous that all the big kids (third grade and up) were watching "South Park" and wearing the T-shirts. All that filtered down to the littler kids was that it was a show about kids our age who swore a lot. We thought that was awesome, and wanted to be just like them... but at six and seven, few of us knew any powerful curse words yet, so we just compensated by stringing together mild curses in inventive chains: "Hell ass crap damn!"

I never expected the show would still be around, much less popular, much MUCH less a respected and well-received satire vehicle, when I grew up.

(In a way, Comic Book Guy was ahead of his time- nowadays no one really thinks twice about judging people for posting online and discussing pop culture. Granted, we're mostly not social recluses like him, but once in a while I read a crotchety board member's posts and think "Worst. Musical. Everrr.")
