clarifying that the song is at 1 hour and 49 minutes - there also is a different clip on the webpage which is very short.
And this sounds gorgeous - although it is not as it sounds in the theatre. I think it's slower, for one - and much much prettier. I don't know where the audience reaction is coming from.
Thanks! Really liked it. It's a little bit more amplified than it is in the theatre. Weird though, because Elaine says it will be out NEXT month, while at the end she says she'll play another exclusive track on the 21st of September. So, will it be released during the last week of September?
Wait, they changed the lyrics? (haven't listened to the track obviously). That's dumb, been listening to the original cast recording and the lyrics for this particular song, while at times clumsy (like in all of the big British pop operas), are quite haunting, especially Gigi's part.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I always cringed at the old lyric (i think it was changed for the revival), "Our children laugh all day/And eat too much ice cream/And life is like a dream!"
There are many lyrical changes in the new performance (and a new song for Ellen). There's some serious editing happening for the recording, as there is a fight scene after Kim's solo and before all the bar girls sing together.
While ome lyrics in the original could be clunky at times, the new ones don't even follow the same thoughtline of the rest of the lyrics and don't make sense. But hey, they rhyme at least!
To me, the song felt more like a concert performance of the song, where acting isn't really required. It didn't sound like something being acted on stage.
