MJ Immortal world tour to close August 31st:

Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour will have its final performance on August 31 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Since its premiere in Montreal in October 2011, THE IMMORTAL World Tour has sold out arenas across four continents and 27 countries, performing for more than 3 million fans, underscoring the worldwide love of Michael Jackson, his artistry, and his humanitarian messages. It has secured its place in history as one of the highest grossing music tours ever as it enters its home stretch” http://www.thechapiteau.com/news-2/my-immortal-closing/

and Corteo to close November 22nd 2015

" Because of the complexity of the the aerial system named Patience, and because of the stage set up, it is impossible for Corteo to tour in the arena format. Some fans have commented that Delirium, the arena show which focused on the music of Cirque du Soleil, had a similar stage with audience on both sides, but the fact is that Delirium was eventually changed to a one-side audience seating. The news concerning no arena format, however, shouldn’t be a surprised as it was always said that Corteo would be a 10-year show. While every show has to close eventually, the news regarding Corteo is especially sad since it will not continue on to arena format, therefore not visiting the smaller cities arena shows reach.Corteo’s last show is said to be on November 22, 2015 " http://www.thechapiteau.com/news-2/ya-se-fue-nos-dejo/

I figured the end of the road was close for MJ's Immortal. It's played internationally for 3 years and it's latest leg in the United States has been pulling in unstable grosses (stooping as low as 20% of potential gross).

Corteo was a shock to me though. I feel as if they could've reformatted the stage easily for an arena. I'm not sure why there wasn't a push for this. As neat as the current stage design is, it easily could've been transformed into a thrust. A disappointment as it's a truly beautiful show. Updated On: 7/29/14 at 07:33 PM

CORTEO was one of my favorite Cirque Du Soleil shows, and I am very sad that more people won't get to see it. However, it was filmed live extremely well, so it is nice to watch sometimes. However, nothing can ever beat seeing a Cirque show live.

Am I the only one who doesn't like this whole arena set up? I much prefer seeing their shows in a tent. The only show I ever saw in an arena was Delirium and the audience was not paying attention at all. (A slightly off topic question) When did Cirque start transferring their productions to Arena venues? It seems like a recent trend.

Dralion is also allegedly closing January 2015: http://www.cirquefascination.com/?p=4680.

"Am I the only one who doesn't like this whole arena set up?"

I've always hated the arena set up. The only show that I thought worked in an Arena was The MJ tour (no surprise there). Arena shows just have a very non personal feel to them. Shows like Saltimbanco and Alegria should be an intimate experience, not in a huge convention center where you can barely see the stage.

While I am certainly not a huge fan of the arena show set up as the shows are just NOT the same, I also appreciate that it makes them in at least some capacity available to those of us a bit more off the beaten path. I have seen lots of the sit downs while traveling to Orlando and Vegas on vacations over the years, I have never been able to see a tent show as the nearest a tent show that has ever come around my location would have been a 3+ hour drive. However, in the arena format, shows come within an hour or 2 of me quite often. This fall alone I will get to see both Drailion and Varekai within a few weeks of another and only have to travel 20 minutes for one and just under an hour for the other. Is it ideal? Certainly not... but I will take what I can get for the love of Cirque.

And yes, Drailion is closing. The ads for it at my local arena all have "farewell tour" on them. I actually though it already WAS closed until I got the notice for it.

I really dislike the arena presentation and without a doubt find the tent show to be a much better more intimate experience. All of the space in the arena makes the show feel so small. The smaller space under the tent draws you in.

Edit: Michael Jackson Immortal was one of the few Cirque shows I missed because I couldn't justify to myself the price of the tickets and the distance I would have to sit from the stage for that price! When it was in the NYC area I remember them being much more expensive than the top Broadway show tickets. Updated On: 7/30/14 at 08:46 AM

Three shows closing now? Dralion, Immortal, and Corteo. Holy wow. And yes, I'm not a huge fan of the arena shows either. I much prefer the tent shows. But, it is a great way for Cirque to visit markets its tent shows don't, and it allows more people to have the chance to experience their productions.

Personally, I just find the arena setup very distant. Even the premium seats are so far away from the actual stage. It's very awkwardly arranged.

P.S. - I completely agree with you Brian. The tickets for Immortal were down right outrageous. I'm shocked Cirque still gets away with half their ticket prices.

When Varekai was first on tour approx 2003 it did come to my area in the tent but at that time I was not familiar with Cirque/ wasn't attending their shows. I did not go. Now a dozen years later Varekai was one of the few Cirque shows that I have not seen. I've only missed the resident shows in Asia and now Mexico.

The arena shows a better if you fork up the money and try to sit as close as possible. When I sat further back those were the experiences I didn't enjoy. Updated On: 7/30/14 at 01:25 PM

The problem with MJ IMMORTAL is the ticket prices are criminal and it's not even a very good show. I wouldn't be caught dead seeing that show when the superior MJ show is in vegas. The one in vegas is actually one of the best cirque shows ever created in my opinion ( and I don't even like Michael Jackson music). But that show was beautiful. The Immortal tour is set up very uncomfortably. The ground seats put you at a horrible view cause you have to look over your shoulder for most of the show. It's also more concert based and they have cut acrobatic acts from the show to make it more "Concert experience". It's not a bad show, but not worth the price. It's not very cirque du soleil

Cirque du Soleil newbie here. I've only seen the recent shows at Citi Field and Barclays Center, including Varekai last night which I loved. Any idea what can be coming to Citi Field and Barclays next year? I looked at the touring schedules and it seems Corteo, Kooza and Kurios are possibilities for Citi Field or maybe an arena Kooza for Barclays?
