South Florida-It WAS. I've seen every replacement (including Ms. Lopez, who is by far the best successor), and Andrea Martin brought something very special to that role. She acted the song extraordinarily well (all 'tricks' aside) and was able to harness the gravitas of the role-along with the gentle humor. Sometimes, it's not the size of the role, but what the actor brings to it.
I just saw Ms Lopez and found her to be stale and giving too much of a performance. For me Annie Potts way surpassed Andrea. However.. she had a tougher more varied audience to deal with. Meaning they weren't the over enthused first monthers that come to a broadway show. Just my opinion.
I thought Annie Potts was a little on the silly end of the spectrum, but that's just my opinion. She was good. But I think Andrea brought an excellent balance of pathos and humor to the role.
I have seen the first three Berthas and LOVED Annie and Andrea but did not care for Tovah as much. The firs time i saw Annie, she was just okay but when i saw the show a month later, she was way better and awesome in the role.
What is Linda Lavin up to? I can only imagine with the cancellation of Sean Saves the World she may be available for a Pippin stint- seems like a good fit!
Could Betty White ever tackle this role? They might have to tone down or modify the tricks but I think her name would sell tickets. I think she would be hysterical.
You just answered your own question- she is doing Hot in Cleveland Everyday not to mention all the other appearances she's doing- i doubt she has time to do 8 shows a week.
I still wonder if Lopez's 6 weeks with the Broadway company is just a filler before she goes on tour. Curious who they have lined-up after Martin's three weeks??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I was thinking the same thing about Lopez because John is going on tour so maybe Pricilla will also. I am thinking for once Andrea leaves it could be any of these people... Jackie Hoffman Linda Lavin maybe, Valerie Harper Jane Lynch Annie Golden
Ooo! I like the Linda Lavin and Jackie Hoffman idea a lot! I would like to see Bernadette Peters in the role. it would be fun, interesting and different. Same for Patti Lupone.
I wanted Valerie Harper ages ago (I even said she'd be amazing). That song would take on a totally different (deeper) meaning with her performing it. Linda Lavin is doing another play and they keep casting women in their 60s-so that kind of leaves out the younger ladies listed (Jane Lynch reads awfully young for the role and she's got a TV show). I guess Jackie Hoffman would be good-I usually enjoy her-but as I said they seem to be getting women who are genuinely the right age for the role (which I kind of like).
I don't have a clue who it is but Valerie Harper would be AMAZING. (Annie Golden could work.) I think it's an A-lister to be honest.
