Here's video of Laura Jane singing "Pretty Funny" from the show for a promo video. Her voice is just heavenly. I wish I could see her Rose, I think she's going to be so perfect.
Saw Dogfight last Saturday. It was way beyond awesome on every possible level. Without question the best thing I've seen in 2014.

Never, the book was very weak and the score was very insipid and bland, however the second half picked up a lot more than the first half, that's why I gave it two stars.
As always, POL, I guess it's down to personal tastes. To me the score is absolutely mind blowing - full of songs that blow me away every time I Listen to them I've not been able to stop playing the Cd since I first bought it.
And imo the book is VERY strong - heartbreaking, touching, beautiful and funny all at the same time. One of only a handful of musicals that genuinely moved me emotionally - there were a number of moments where I was in tears tbh.
And the four central performances were all seriously fantastic.

The four leads did their piece with an flawed piece, it did the score no favours with 6 of the 8 instruments were stringed, it overwhelmed the piece.
WOS hit the nail on the head with their 3/5 star review, 'Handsomely produced by the Sonia Friedman of the fringe, Danielle Tarento, and energetically performed by its young cast, Dogfight is, alas, melodically bland and dramatically flat. It is a "bunch of American GIs try to get laid and one of them falls in love" kind of show and that's more or less it.'
Actually, with the right writers "Dogfight" could make a sensational musical. But with the Emperor's New Clothes team (please someone destroy them now before it takes three or four full, awful, wasted shows to finally realized how uninspired they are) this show didn't have a chance.

A 5 star rave from pocket Size Theatre - a "theatre website run by theatre-goers".
It's so fascinating to read so many rave comments about this show as well as very critical comments from some posters on this Board. This kind of range of opinions is one of the things that makes theatre so special!

I was extremely impressed by the score for this, it is just lovely except the title song which was a little TOO screechy for my taste, but I found it really hard to get on board with the story. The basic starting point of the guys trying to bring the ugliest girls to the dance in order to win money just rendered all the male characters so unlikable. Although, predictably, the male lead comes round it was too little too late for me, and I just couldn't be moved by the second half. That said, the whole show is really well staged and performed, and in Laura Jane Mathewson as the female lead a star really is born.Of course, this being a musical, she is actually gorgeous.
There was a negative review in Time Out yesterday. Most negative comment seems to focus on distaste for the whole 'dogfight' premise, which I think is a bit of shame; I don't see why any disapproval of the male characters' conduct needs to impinge on appreciation of the show, as if it were somehow promoting a misogynistic agenda.
Why don't you go? Why don't you leave Manderley? He doesn't need you... he's got his memories. He doesn't love you, he wants to be alone again with her. You've nothing to stay for. You've nothing to live for really, have you?
