I must have a heart of stone, cause I've never been moved to tears at any show I've been at. As for Les Mis, I agree with ljay; the show throws so many characters at the audience and most of them aren't too developed and so it's hard - at least for me - to get emotionally invested with a lot of them.

"I felt pretty emotionless during this current revival."

Agreed, ljay. The only emotion I really felt during this revival was frustration. The whole production from the cast to the scenic and lighting design had an amateurish vibe to it.

Not a single tear at Les Miz - the original or the current revival - not once over many viewings. And if I came close to tears at the current revival, it was tears of anger for the 3 hours I'll never get back.

That said, I can get pretty emotional at a show if it really transports me - tears of sorrow and of joy. (POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD)Just yesterday, I cried tears of sorrow at If/Then, when David (Jason Tam) talks about losing his best friend. (It had as much to do with the show as the fact that I was sitting right next to my best friend, thinking about how devastated I'd be to lose him.)

Once... I cried into my jacket during it, and felt an ache in my heart for hours after.
A Chorus Line... Happy tears when the finalists are chosen and on that last beat of "I Hope I Get It" they all stand there with a profound look of hope after their head shots are taken away. Also, if "Paul" is good, I'm a mess after his speech.
Avenue Q... When Rod realizes he's been dreaming...
Wicked... any time I hear the song "For Good" (See my comment about If/Then and my best friend)
Next to Normal... at different times throughout the entire thing...
Bridges... same thing
Pippin... after "Morning Glow", crying at my best friend being so moved by it... (we go to a lot of theatre together and have been through some serious stuff together in real life...)

And my biggest cry of all... I'm pretty sure I embarrassed myself at Blood Brothers one time... Petula Clark had her back to us, with the Cassidys lying dead on the floor. She started to sing "Tell Me It's Not True," and her voice caught as she was fighting back the tears herself. I started to weep... she turns around and the tears are literally dripping off her face... I wept harder... she bends down and clasps their hands together, and I cried harder still. I MADE NOISE. I couldn't get out of my seat when it was over, and I couldn't stop crying for some reason. Finally, I got up and left the theatre, standing outside the Music Box trying to collect myself. And who walks by? Petula Clark, who said she could see me from the stage and never felt so good about her performance before! Then she hugged me and I started to cry all over again.

This will sound hard to believe... I am a big crier at shows (stage, movies and TV), but in real life I'm rarely moved to tears, even following a death...

Thanks for listening...

I used to cry like a baby in the original version but this new revival is in too much of a rush both in terms of speeded up tempi and cut verses for me to get emotionally invested. Such a shame. I used to love staggering out of the old Les Mis an emotionally spent wreck. This one has it's moments but left me pretty cold overall.

I always cry when the ghosts come back at the end. "To love another person is to see the face of God" etc. However, this year Big Fish got the ugly crying. I couldn't stop. People were staring at me leaving the theater.

Ha ha! Agreed KC91WFU, I was similar after Big Fish. I thought it was a deeply flawed show albeit with some lovely work in it, but the last 20 minutes really got to me. Met friends for drinks after and had to go into the restroom of the bar by myself and pull myself together for a couple of minutes. So to speak. I was also very moved by almost everything to do with Berthe and Catherine in Pippin. Again, I was awash during the last 10 minutes, but then again I think the current version is one of the best things I have ever seen anywhere.
