They'll get someone like Anna Kendrick or Amanda Seyfried to play Marion. (Actually I think Anna Kendrick could be very good.) Or some pop artist (not sure who).

They probably will cast names, I agree. But what you said was that Jessie Mueller couldn't sing it. I was just making sure you were aware that wasn't accurate, since there are recordings that would prove otherwise. If it has to be a name, Anna Kendrick could be fun. Though I doubt she could sing it. I stand by Seth MacFarlane for Harold though.

"They'll get someone like Anna Kendrick or Amanda Seyfried to play Marion. (Actually I think Anna Kendrick could be very good.) Or some pop artist (not sure who)."

Anna Kendrick may be currently filming Pitch Perfect 2 right now, but she openly expressed that at this point, she doesn't want to do another musical after having already filmed two movie musicals back-to-back (The Last Five Years/Into the Woods), so you can cross that off for now.

I always think of Mueller as a belter soprano. Marion is a lyric soprano role. There is a difference. (Carrie Pipperidge, a role Mueller played exquisitely, is a traditional belter/mezzo role.)

I'm glad you think of her that way but her resume and her vocal range has indicated she is more than comfortable and capable singing lyric soprano parts. Thank God casting doesn't rely on what some poster on a message board "thinks of" someone as.

Is there any "name" that anyone can think of who could carry off the vocals of the part? I mean, of course there are myriad Broadway stars, but who's gonna be the Carrie Underwood of this one?

"Is there any "name" that anyone can think of who could carry off the vocals of the part?"

It will evoke strong feelings, but Anne Hathaway comes to mind.

Dollypop, I'm crazy about Charlie White (and Meryl Davis too!). I've been a fan of theirs for years. But I don't think Charlie has quite the right personality for Harold -- I think he's more "sunny optimist" than "smooth-talking con man." Maybe there's a thin line between the two, but he's pretty firmly on one side of it.

I like the idea of casting him in a TV musical, though. Just not this one. Maybe if "Crazy for You" ever came to TV . . . the Music Man

I think Kristin Chenoweth would make a wonderful Marian Paroo.

Ohhh wait....sh!t...

I'd love to see Jimmy Fallon and Megan Hilty take a crack at this. Also, would love to see some good Broadway names in the supporting roles as they did with Sound Of Music.

I love Jimmy Fallon, but there's nothing I've ever seen him do that would indicate to me that he's right for Harold Hill.

How about Harry Connick, Jr and Anne Hathaway?

But, if they follow the pattern of picking a soap opera star for the male lead:
Don Diamont

They should do A Chorus Line one of these days, if any show needs to be "live" it's ACL, and think of how inexpensive it would be. Outfit a theatre with multiple cameras and let a great live TV director go to town on it. God knows we need something on tape to erase the movie being the only thing left for people to look at years from now when we are all gone.

As much as I love A Chorus Line, I think it would really be hurt by commercial interruptions.

There's no doubt Mueller can sing it but the camera does not like her in close-up. She's no Marian. And not a big enough name (yet).

I'd really love to see Seth MacFarlane as Harold Hill--he can sing and he's a pretty good draw, but all his shows are on Fox, and he's pretty tied up there. I don't think Fox will let him jump ship to NBC.

Lots of great choices: Hugh Jackman, Justin Timberlake, NPH, Seth McFarlane, Zach Levi, Zach Braff. With a star as Harold Hill they can get a Broadway performer for Marian!

I'd like to see James Marsden as Harold.

Seth is just so smarmy to me.

Umm, what pattern was that?

I've always been saying that Seth MacFarlane needs a chance to play Harold Hill. He and Kelli O'Hara have my vote.

I love Seth McFarlane. He is a great director, writer, producer, does amazing voicework, gets pop culture, all that. But, he can't act, has no on-screen presence, and I just don't think he's meant to be in front of a camera.

I love the suggestion of Harry Connick Jr. as Harold Hill. And pair him up with Laura Benanti and I'm in musical comedy heaven.
