Idina is really lucky then that Audra will be most likely nominated for Best Leading Actress in a PLAY. Because she (or Michelle) will be in trouble then.
I had a response, but I guess the internet ate it. But I think that Rylance's nomination in Leading Actor for Twelfth Night basically highlights that the OCC can place people and shows in whatever categories they'd like. The Tony committee has already ruled that Rylance will be eligible for Featured for Twelfth Night, so who can say whether the OCC decision to put McDonald in Leading Actress in a Musical will match with what the Tony committee decides.
That being said, I was delighted to see Chahidi's name there for Twelfth Night.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

blaxx, I know they're not the Tonys. But the Administration committee has yet to rule on Lady Day, and this could influence their choice to classify it as a musical vs. a play.
Just saying, let's not make premature conclusions out of these.

BLAXX, you honestly think Audra won't be nominated for the Tony? If not you are out of your mind! And if you see the show you would know she is CERTAINLY above a few of the performances listed.
Yah, in hindsight, the Idina omission isn't a snub since Audra was included in the category. If Lady Day is ruled a musical at the Drama Desks, I'd expect to see the exact same category plus Idina since they've done 6-nominee categories. Last year they actually had 7.
Thrilled for the Rocky love, think they nailed Leading Actress AND Actor in a musical, and really, really delighted that If/Then and Bullets weren't over-nominated. I'm also very, very happy that Machinal was remembered.
There are oversights, of course. Linda Emond should have a nod in Featured Actress. I'd put her in above most of the nominees (worthy though they are), and I think the actors of Casa Valentina were unreasonably overlooked (though I love Winningham's nomination). But all in all, I'm very happy with these.

No, I never said such a thing. I just meant there is no guarantee about her placement.

Very glad to see MULLINGAR, MACHINAL and THE WINSLOW BOY all not be forgotten. O'Byrne especially! We all knew MENAGERIE would stand tall, glad to see the winter as a whole isn't being ignored.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
No John Tiffany for MENAGERIE? Really? I'll call 'em the "Outer Space Critics Awards", too.
I think there were some strange omissions, but I think some of the categories are spot-on.

I loved Chahidi-I thought he was better than Rylance at being a woman. He was amazing-and although I am fairly certain the Tonys will fail to recognize him, I am glad someone did.
I think with the exception of the omission of John Tiffany, I would love for these to be the Tonys. (And just extend it to off-Broadway.)
Great for Gentleman's Guide, this will be an interesting exercise in whether awards count and for how long. I just don't see that show picking up much steam even if it wins. Once was a hit off-Broadway, did ok when it opened on B'Way and went thru the roof after the awards, that push lasted a year. Gentleman's Guide has done poorly since opening, and its been open awhile. Same for After Midnight. If Bridges gets the same snub at the Tony nominations I would expect it to close on the 4th. If Gentleman and After Midnight don't win big I see them following suit after the awards. Aladdin's on its way to being a hit, If/Then is a hit as long as its star stays aboard. The awards will probably mean the most to Rocky and Bullets and this round went to Rocky. Broadway has way too much musical product right now - it not only dilutes the audience but it also dilutes who gets nominations and awards.
