I just went online to book a weekend at the Big Apple Hostel and see that it was sold and closed in March. I always stayed there when I wanted to see a weekend full of shows without paying a lot for lodging, the location was perfect. Can anyone recommend a similar establishment? I'm looking for something relatively close to the theater district, does not have to be fancy at all, just clean. Thanks!
Look into the Pod hotels. Not in the theater district, but walkable. Small, clean, modern. When I stayed there, I paid for a single but got bumped up to a queen.

Never stayed here, don't know anyone who has, but Jazz on the Park has re-opened. I walked past it the other day and it looked good. Close to CPW and the 103rd st "C" train stop. Jazz on the Park
I had never heard of, The Pod Hotel. I live in New York, but often have people traveling here who are looking for affordable housing. So, with this in mind, I checked out their website. $200 for a single bed in a space not much larger! I do not find that reasonable. New York hotel rates are just insane.
ARTc3 formerly ARTc. Actually been a poster since 2004. My name isn't Art. Drop the "3" and say the signature and you'll understand.
West Side YMCA is fine...I am staying there for the second time. About 125 dollars a night. Close to Lincoln Center. Nothing fancy, but the bathrooms are huge and they clean them everyday...
Check Trip Adviser, we used them to rent a very lovely full Apartment when we went to London. It was great and so much cheaper than getting a hotel room for the time we were there, had a full kitchen, WiFi and a great deck.
Yeah, The Pod is for yuppies who want to appear trendy. In no way is it a bargain or good deal. Try these two hostels, you can get a bed in the 50 to 60 dollar range. They are both located on the Upper West Side, which is really beautiful and transportation is super easy.
I spent two weeks at Jazz on the Park and had a great time. However, this was 12 years ago so I can't really comment on what it is like now. It is also a bit of a hike to the theatre district.
