I saw the first preview and was thinking of rushing it this week to see the changes that they made. From the sound of it they have made no changes. Can anyone verify this?

The only thing I've noticed in this thread is that they supposedly got rid of "the planets" during "A Whole New World," though the moon still transforms into a giant rotating earth.

I may go anyway. I enjoyed "Friend Like Me", and I have friends going this week. We can all go to Juniors afterwards and compare notes. Girls night out!

I saw Aladdin Sunday (03/16) and loved it. Mind you, it’s not classically great theatre. It’s just plain silly fun with a well-told story, great technical elements, a catchy score, energetic performances, and a brisk 2 hour, 20 minute pace. After being bored out of my brains through many of the last year's musical offerings, Aladdin was just a delight. I suppose you could say it brought out the kid in me.

I say that it’s near-perfect in that I think it accomplishes what it sets out to do: provide an entertaining afternoon or evening of theatre for families. And judging from the reaction of all of the families in the sold out house around me, this could be a big hit for Disney. It won’t appeal to the hardcore theatre aficionado but I don’t believe it’s the demographic Disney is after. I’d without question take my younger grandkids to see it and there’s really not another show on Broadway I can say that about--except maybe Cinderella for the girls. Even The Lion King would be hard pressed to keep their attention.

With a parade of big production numbers, gorgeous costumes, and sets full of eye-popping color (I’ll have to admit they were a bit pedestrian until The Cave, oh, The Cave), Aladdin really gave me my money’s worth. The cast was having a blast and it showed, really amping up the energy. In recent memory, Andrea Martin’s No Time At All was the only other time I have seen a full out standing ovation following a number and A Friend Like Me certainly deserved the accolades. I sat in third row orchestra and didn’t need a fellow audience member to cue me to my feet. That one number is what musical theatre is about and it was just one of a series of huge audience-pleasers in Aladdin.

I’m not going to dissect the show here. It does have some book problems and some weak spots in the cast, but the problems I had were certainly not problems for most others—and certainly didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the show. When we were leaving the theatre (which, by the way, looks wonderful), the father in front of us turned to his wife and three kids and said, “We really need to do this more often. That was incredible, wasn’t it?” They all vigorously agreed. Perhaps that word of mouth is what is going to fill the seats of the New Amsterdam for a long time to come.

^ I haven't seen the NYC version yet, but that is exactly how I felt about it when I saw it in Toronto.

I have seen it twice now and the two times the show was exactly the same. There are no planets during "A Whole New World" which I was worried about seeing based on Toronto reviews. Glad it was gone.

when did you see the show tmbyru? i saw invited dress and then saw it last saturday and some scenes were definitely different, like the opening, the staging of a whole new world and some of the jokes here and there. overall i thought the changes helped keep everything tighter and moved it along.

yes the planets are gone and the earth does show up in the sky but they've added this awesome effect to make it look like their zooming away from the earth and then float back down into the atmosphere.

does anyone know if they are gonna do tkts? i bought my tickets when they were selling them at a discount and i wanna bring my nephew next month

I bought tickets to aladdin for may and to my surprise, only paid $91.50 for 2nd row of the mezzanine, including fees. Believe me, I am beyond excited about the price but does anyone know why the prices in the front mezz and a majority of the orchestra are so low? I realize $91.50 is a lot of a money but compared to other shows/theatres who are selling their orchestra and mezzanine for over $91, WITH a discount, and normally go for $120+ without one, I'm curious why Aladdin is selling a majority of the house for only $91. Again, not complaining, just curious if anyone knows the reasoning. I'd assume a Disney show would be charging much more money, especially seeing how I paid $155 plus fees for my Lion King tickets last week...

Disney/Aladdin released a discount offer when tickets first went on sale for a limited time. I used the same discount for the first row in the front mezz for May 28. $89 seats instead of $115.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
