So I wanna get tickets to Hedwig, but I don't wanna pay full price. Anyone know of any discounts yet? If not, what do you think is my best bet. I'm not close enough to the city to go in with the possibility of getting rush tickets - I need to know I have them.

Hedwig hasn't announced a lottery or rush policy yet, or whether SRO would be available (the current production in that theater does have standing room, so that's a safe bet).

So, it sounds like your option is waiting for them to release a discount code, if your only options are a guaranteed seat or a discount.

Don't hold your breath on discounts. It is selling extremely well. If anything there might be some for weekdays during previews, but just looking at availability on telecharge right now, I'd doubt even that.

I'm a little wary of judging ticket sales by Telecharge availability. I just bought tickets today for April 19 at 8:00 pm, with plenty of availability showing in the mezzanine and balcony (though not in the front of either section). Yesterday, for the same performance, only scattered tickets were displayed. So who knows what any of it means? :)

So maybe I should just suck it up and buy full-price tickets?

I decided to pay full price. I do that two or three times a year. This was my thinking: Hedwig has a devoted core of fans. Neil Patrick Harris is a big name. He's contracted for only a limited amount of time. The Belasco is not a huge theater (a bit more than 1,000 seats). So, for you, it depends on how big a fan you are. Would you be that disappointed if you missed it?

On the other hand, there's almost always a way to get in to a show. Let's say you decide to wait for discounts, and none materialize. Failing everything else, you could show up at the box office 15 minutes before curtain with cash in hand, and buy a full-price ticket from the cancellation line. If the weather happens to be miserable that day, so much the better.

I decided I didn't want to pay full price for Bullets Over Broadway, so I'm waiting for that rush policy to be announced. If it's a big hit, I'll miss out.

You're just falling for the producers' strategy. They want you to get nervous that you'll get shut out altogether and buy the ridiculously priced non-discounted seats. Don't fall for it. Even Bullets Over Broadway just put out a discount code. Hedwig will release one. They don't start previews until the end of March so I suspect there will be a code anywhere from mid February to early March. Hang in there!

I fell for this with Glass Menagerie when we came to NYC the first weekend of December. Paid full price because there were no discounts and I was getting nervous. The theater was maybe only at 60% capacity, could easily have bought at TKTS 50% off minutes before showtime. Seems to be a new, but prevalent strategy.

Pathman, I'm thinking that the market for musicals tends to be broader than for plays, and that's why I bought my ticket to Hedwig and I'm biding my time for All the Way. Despite the star power of that play, I'm hoping it will show up on TKTS.

Using Telecharge's availability to judge tickets sales is a false indicator. Many theaters with Select Your Own Seating have what's called a SYOS Suppression Hold that is applied to various locations throughout the house as a way of reverse dressing to make the theater look fuller than it is without actually comping yet to encourage people to buy tickets to what appears to be a nearly sold out performance.

And a lot of shows hold the first few rows until they load in, lock down the set, etc. I've bought third row to a show in advance, since it was the closest row available only to see rows one and two light up as available later, closer to opening...

You can usually tell when Telecharge is lying, though. The front orchestra holds are to sort out whether they can make those premium later, etc., but safe bet that if the middle of the side orchestra is only available, they didn't really sell out the ones further over. Same with the mezzo/balcony. If lots of row 4 is available, but 5 back is sold out? Nonsense.

I just tried using that link with no luck! I guess the window to use it is now closed! Looks like I will be trying for standing room because I really want to see this and the only tickets left on the day I can go are $300!
