Why must the Kennedy Center and National Theatre post their seasons so late?

Thanks Washington Post for having the complete season! Better than the Kennedy Center website, who has nothing
”Evita” (tour, Opera House, Sept. 30-Oct. 19)-Okay

–”Little Dancer,” by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, directed by Susan Stroman. (world premiere, Eisenhower Theater, Oct. 25-Nov. 30)-Cool. A new musical

–”Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (tour, Opera House, Dec. 16-Jan. 4, 2015)-What the Hell.

–”Gigi,” by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, with new book by Heidi Thomas, directed by Eric Schaeffer (Eisenhower, Jan. 17-Feb. 15, 2014)-Fine

–”Zero Hour: Tokyo Rose’s Last Tape,” written and directed by Miwa Yanagi (Terrace Theater, Feb. 6-7, 2015)-Whatever

–”The Book of Mormon” (tour, Opera House, July 16-Aug. 16, 2015)-Yes. I can try again to see it !

–”Once” (tour, Eisenhower, July 7-Aug. 16)

Philly has a really great season ahead:

Newsies: 10/28-11/2
Cinderella: 11/25-11/28
Motown: 1/6-1/18
The Illusionists - Witness the Impossible: 2/24-3/1
Annie: 3/17-3/22
Dirty Dancing: 3/24-4/5
Kinky Boots: 4/28-5/10.

Season Extras:
Stomp: 12/26-12/30
The Lion King: 5/20-6/14.

Really excited for a lot of these, especially Newsies, Cinderella, and Kinky Boots. Like Mormon will be doing this summer, Kinky Boots will be at the Forrest.

Broadway in Boston is going to announce their season on March 24. Wish they didn't take so long. I'm hoping we get Kinky Boots, Motown, and Pippin. We're probably getting Dirty Dancing too. Plus were already getting Newsies and I believe The Lion King. Cant wait for them to announce!

Kennedy Center season announcement is very disappointing to me! Where's Pippin, Motown, Kinky Boots, Dirty Dancing? Here's hoping that The National Theater produces a MUCH better season! "Keeping my fingers crossed"

I bet Evita will show up on the Boston season. I'm kind of surprised it's not playing Memphis.

At least, KC has Once. Does anyone know when THE NATIONAL THEATER's schedule will come? And Orlando's? (I'm going to be at FL for the last half of the year)

I'm glad that the Kennedy Center is getting BOM again -- even though I'm a member, and tried to get tickets during the members only sale period, it was already sold out.

Orlando hasn't announced anything yet. The only thing I know, because of an internal announcement for cast members, is that Newsies will play Orlando next year.

Tempe ASU Gammage just announced:
Kinky Boots

Not bad, but disappointed Book of Mormon still hasn't made it here yet.

Hard to say with the National. I'm glad to see the new management is actually booking the hall. My concern is that what they have booked are older non-equity shows that might otherwise have gone into the Warner, and not the larger shows and longer runs. That being said, the new management came in and was able to bid on whatever was available. It will be interesting to see what comes in the next few years.

As for these smaller touring productions, does anyone else feel that audiences are being cheated in that these are productions that are heavily cut down from their original productions, but the cost of an orchestra seat is still over $100? I know I've seen several articles in towns where reviewers have noticed as much, but these smaller, non-equity productions keep coming and even when they come they're only coming for a week -- hardly enough time to get word of mouth for folks that aren't familiar with the show.

All in good time. I know it's the third year Tempe has skipped it, but The Book of Mormon will have an extremely long touring life. It will make it's way to Arizona soon. Tempe also held off on Avenue Q for a little while. Honestly, this is the best season possible that could have been assembled based on what is out there.
