Flashdance coming in this season?

According to Michael Riedel's new column it is: http://nypost.com/2013/12/27/looking-ahead-to-what-2014-will-bring-to-broadway/

Is it taking the Cort? And Realistic Joneses will announce it is taking the Lyceum once Joplin posts notice?

Not really what the "article" (if you even want to call it that) said... And Flashdance was one of the most atrocious things I have ever seen. Terrible through and through.

The producers have said that they are making major changes to the book compared to the show that toured, based on much of the feedback that was received. So I guess we will see.

The Cort is taken, and not by Flashdance or Realistic Joneses.

I know from an inside source that Flashdance will be reworked once the tour wraps up and is expected to go back into a workshop this summer/fall. The producers are still hoping for Flashdance to arrive on Broadway within a year or so.
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

FLASHDANCE will not be this season.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

By rework, I hope they mean scrap everything and start all over. That is the only way the show can possibly be salvaged. Except for the song Just Out Of Reach, all of the material is pure trash. It is a laughable mess. It's an uphill battle from here for this show. It was truly one of the most painful things I have ever sat through.

The best thing they could do with the show is chalk it up as a failure and let it die a nice quiet little death when the tour wraps up. Easily one of the worst touring shows I've seen (and I sat through half of Saturday Night Fever and all of Fame).

"I've been through Flashdance, Fever, and both acts of Fame ... and I'm here."

So if it's not coming in, why did Riedel use it several times in that article?

I'd rather sit through the camptasticness of Flashdance a thousand times than ever sit through Leap of Faith ever again.

I just saw Flashdance last night in DC and really feel that all the haters out there of this show might not have seen Leap of Faith as AntV has mentioned. I hated LoF and was in pain the whole show. Flashdance, with its obvious flaws, was much better than that awful experience.

The original poster said "When Joplin posts its notice", is it closing soon? Did I miss the announcement?

At least Leap of Faith did not have some weird ending with lighting, LED lights, and projections that made the audience feel like they were getting sucked up into God's vagina while being forced to listen to a painful rendition of What A Feeling with some of the worst choreography I have seen...

That's funny... I didn't get an overwhelming feeling of being sucked into a vagina. The LED lights did annoy me and I was very disappointed with the way they did What a Feeling, but I still stick to my opinion that Leap of Faith still wins my award for the worst show I have ever seen. And if that can find a Broadway house (and the only reason it did is because of Menken) so can Flashdance. That's not to say it would last long.

I hope it goes to Broadway just so everyone else can enjoy this mess as much as I did. Despite how bad it was, it was one of the most fun nights I have had in a theatre. The book was so bad it was hilarious.

The UK version was much darker and well put together that the current US one, God knows why they changed so much of it.

It closed fast. But as someone who saw the UK version, I was quite entertained.

All this negativity made me curious, so I found a review of the show in DC from a few days ago in one of the DC papers, and it was pretty darn good. I'm looking for the Washington Post review now.p

Not a terrible review at all. Would love to see what the Post thinks too.

Mueller was not the best dancer but was fine in this tour version. They would obviously recast the Broadway version with higher caliber. I think if they cut a song or two from Act 1 and 2, it would be more concise. Not really feeling the best friend and comedic boyfriend story either. Maybe just the best friend becoming a stripper story line would be fine enough.

There have been many stories about how the book will be reworked before a NY opening.

... The link does not work for me? Most of the reviews I have seen have been very negative. It seems to be like the Jekyll & Hyde tour with pretty much all negative reviews with a couple mixed. Without some HEAVY revamping, I can not see this lasting long on Broadway at all. The physical design of the show was also awful. It was one of those designs you can tell they put a lot of money into, but it was visually unappealing in so many ways.

It was designed by the same designer as Sister Act which you could tell by the sliding panels and the very literal sets of each location.
