With 2013 coming to a close, let's now talk about our most anticipated new musicals of 2014! Revivals will not count for this thread knowing that its currently such a slow year for revivals with two official ones (Les Miserables & Cabaret) as well as two old shows priemiering on Broadway for the very first time (Hedwig & the Angry Inch and Violet), so we're talking new musicals, so lets get started with my Top 3!
1. The Bridges of Madison County 2. If/Then 3. Aladdin
So what's your most anticipated new musical(s) of 2014?
Why am I having such a hard time getting excited about any of these? I haven't seen anything with any of the choices that make me go "Wow. I can't wait". I took a peak at the first song I saw released from Bridges. . . and it nearly put me to sleep. Please give me hope that something wonderful is going to happen with at least one of them.
ROCKY has really good buzz, a great creative team (Flaherty, Ahrens, Meehan, Alex Timbers -- Steven Hoggett and Kelly Devine will do the choreography, I assume Hoggett will do the fight staging), and an excellent cast led by Andy Karl.
ROCKY was the feel good movie of 1976 and this could very well be the feel good musical of 2014.
I also think ROCKY will work. I love the set design (from the interweb), and I've heard a few songs snippets that sound great. I already have my tickets for the first week.
