I gotta admit, she sounds way better than I thought she would. The country flavor in her voice works well for Maria's "folky" sound. And she can yodel purdy dang well!

My cats literally ran under the bed when I played it.

They've never done that before

LOL

Yodeling = power over cats. Remember that.

And never take them to the Alps.

I've never really doubted her vocal ability for the role. But there is sometimes a dead-eyed thing she does that both bores and unnerves me at the same time. But I will be watching with an open mind and open legs (I'm trying to turn the viewing party into a Salzburgian orgy!)

They sound great, too!

I have a feeling the ratings on this are going to be huge. (Well, as far as "huge" goes these days, with 300 channels, DVRs, discs, etc.).

Where's the volume adjustment on the clip?! I nearly blew my ears out it was so loud.
Hey Dottie! Did your colleagues enjoy the cake even though your cat decided to sit on it? ~GuyfromGermany

I like Carrie a lot as a singer. I worry about her acting chops for this role, but I wasn't worried vocally and this clip confirmed that. But this whole enterprise will be worth it just to hear Audra McDonald sing "Climb Ev'ry Mountain".
But just remembering you've had an "and" When you're back to "or" Makes the "or" mean more than it did before Now I understand! And it's time to leave the woods.

It'll be even more worth it if she calls Underwood a 'c*nt face!'

The hills are alive even if Carrie Unerdwood's eyes aren't!

Robbie, you just want someone to poo their pants or flash their naughty bits on live TV in the middle of an R&H musical ... don't you!?!?

Have you seen her first acting performance in Soul Surfer?

Uh ... no. Soul Surfer didn't register on my radar.

If audiences had judged Jessica Lange by her truly hideously bad performance in King Kong, she never would have had an acting career.

And King Kong was a (wild guess) probably better project than Soul Surfer.

Besty, I'm with you. She sounds great, and perfect for the role. I am so glad they seem to be doing the stage version (and cutting An Ordinary Couple...)

Was there ever any doubt she'd be able to yodel?

Seriously, I'm sold. We'll have to see about her acting, but I'm confident she can handle the score.

What gets me is all of these people Bitching about Carrie when, in my opinion, Moyer is sounding very shaky. Not impressed with what I have heard thus far.

I liked Moyer in Chicago at the Hollywood Bowl so I'm going to give him a chance. Though I do think that if they hadn't gone with him, Michael C. Hall would have been an amazing Captain (he has a great voice and some name value).

I only caught a small part of it while I was running out the door so Im probably just mistaken but is Carrie sing the opening song in a considerably lower key than at least JA in the film version?

She will be singing in same key that Mary Martin sings on the OBC recording.

Not bad. This teaser is the best out of all the ones NBC has released featuring Underwood. She's still shouty-sounding in certain phrases but the yodeling is pretty good.

Even on this Broadway site, people can't get passed Julie Andrews in the movie? I get that from non-Broadway aficionados who grew up on the film and can't see past it, but YOU guys? Come on.

MARY MARTIN ... she created the role on Broadway. The show was written for her. She won the Tony for it, beating out Ethel Merman in Gypsy, Carol Burnett in Once Upon a Mattress, Dolores Gray in Destry Rides Again, and Eileen Herlie in Take Me Along.

MARY MARTIN was Maria first.

MARY MARTIN.

She sang those songs first. In different keys. She didn't sing a high C at the end of Do Re Mi. She sang it her way. First.

MARY MARTIN.

Ever heard of her?
