I hate posts that start like this, but I got assigned the role of Linda Rotunda (what a name!) in my acting class. I've just finished the play. I never heard of it before this afternoon, and I have to say I really don't like it. I'm surprised as such a misstep from John Patrick Shanley. Am I in the minority for hating it?
I wouldn't call it a misstep at all. It's simply an early work from an exciting playwright who was exploring the world he knew. I'd recommend reading Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Women of Manhattan and Italian American Reconciliation (which I adore) to get a feel for his early works.
Just a suggestion. This play is being done by a group in Toronto right now. The website is www.savageintoronto.com
If you click on the "contact" icon and send a thoughtful message to either Melissa or Diana, I would hope that at least one of them would take the time to tell you why they are doing the play and why they admire it. Give it a shot. Good luck on your own show!
Ha! I once got assigned a Linda Rotunda scene in school and had pretty much the same reaction. I found out later that the teacher was really trying to stretch us by working on that scene (I had immense trouble identifying with Linda but later found out that was the teachers aim). Anyway, had to chime in as I feel your pain.
Hope your scene goes well. I think you ca. At least learn something from everything you work on.

Hey GlindaTheGood22 -- I am currently producing that play in Toronto, and playing the role of Linda. We love the play, and I love the part -- I'm sorry to hear you're not enjoying it. If you wanted to ask any questions about why we love it, or what it is that drew me to the part, I'd be happy to answer them. And if you're in Toronto anytime between now and November 7th, come see us! www.SavageinToronto.com. Break legs!
