Post 'em here, friends!

Having not yet ventured to the Rodgers, but *having seen the director's work previously, I'm anxious to hear what the critics make of this lstest Billy Shakes offering.

Best,
- M :)

Never heard of it. Sounds like a weird ripoff of Shakespeare, though.

FYI, tickets for opening night are available if anyone feels like going. It appears there's lots of available tickets. It's even up at TKTS for 50% off.

ROMEO & JULIET (B'way) Reviews

There is nothing terribly wrong with this “Romeo and Juliet,” but there is little that is especially thrilling, or deeply moving, or thematically coherent. ...

No one posted any of the reviews?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"The concept ought to inform an entire production and shed light on Shakespeare’s classic tale about the timelessness of love and the bad timing of impetuous youths in love. But, as with many of Leveaux’s slick and often empty forays onto Broadway, the color-coding is only skin deep ... Like the lead actors, it’s pretty to look at, but seldom connects with anything deep."

Brantley wasn't as harsh as I was expecting. He enjoyed the first act quite a bit, and thought Bloom is giving a "first-rate Broadway debut."
