The cast of A CHRISTMAS STORY (2013) will probably be cast by the time of the Tony Awards broadcast. Their auditions for kids are may 5th I believe. If Johnny Rabe is not coming back because he has outgrown the part (he deserved a nomination for his performance) then they will have time to put the cast together for, I imagine, RALPHIE TO THE RESCUE and maybe a short verse of the title song (which is quite lovely). I find it hard to believe that MATILDA won't put REVOLTING CHILDREN on the telecast.
I really hope Kinky does something besides "Everybody Say Yeah" because the lyrics suck. I wish they do "The Sex is in the Heel" with a cameo by Cyndi . . . I could see that happening.
"Observe how bravely I conceal this dreadful dreadful shame I feel."
^^^^ Thank you! The lyrics in "Everybody Say Yeah" are horrendous. "The Sex is in the Heel," and "Raise You Up," would be much better choices. And if Lauper makes an appearance I am going to watch the Tonys more than once this year.
Carolee will perform "Stand Up" with the cast of Scandalous! After all if she does win the award it would be a shame not to see her give a performance.
I think they should have all of the shows perform little bits in the opening like they did in 2009, that was by far the best tony opening (aside from its not just for gays anymore). That way they can get the shows not nominated for musical or revival into the show without over stuffing it.
I would hope HARDBODY would do "Joy Of The Lord" to showcase Keala Settle (even though her odds against Andrea Martin are slim). I'm pretty sure Phish money kept the show open to begin with, so why not a last hurrah?

When it won for Best Musical (1986?), they did a mash up of There You Are (with the cast in the audience) and Dont't Quit While You're Ahead. It was a very good piece and sold the musical pretty well.
Who's to say this would not be an impetus to tour it again.
I have a hunch that magic to do will NOT be the song Pippin does. I feel like that gives away one of the best moment's in the show and I feel like there is enough circus throughout without that. Although it does feature the whole cast. But I just have this feeling that they'll do Simple Joys.

I think "Magic to Do" would play so much better on TV than anything else. People would be wowed by it and immediately buy tickets. It also features all three nominees, as well as all the other principals other than Pippin. It's the show's "Circle of Life" and an iconic song as well, maybe the most famous.
Kinky Boots should do either "Sex Is in the Heel" or "Raise You Up" if only to show Billy Porter looking fabulous in drag.
What about Barry Manilow ? He was on Broadway this season, though he isn't nominated for anything (such a pity the best theatrical event category doesn't exist anymore)It would be nice to see him perform at the Tonys...
I don't get the idea that PIPPIN wouldn't do "Magic to Do" because it gives away anything... it's literally the opening of the show, it's a perfect loss-leader to give away as an enticement to see the rest of the show that follows. Besides, they already did an interactive feature with NYT about that very moment, exploring it in detail, so whether you feel they shouldn't or not, the facts on the ground reveal that this production is more than happy to use their "Magic to Do" as bait. In fact, I'd be shocked if they didn't do that number at the Tonys.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
I firmly believe " There You Are" would be a wonderful number it's lively and the cast intermingles with Auidence. Good way to rally the viewers as well!
