Don't be like the politicians. Actually WORK together to make changes and write the new contracts BEFORE a strike.
"TO LOVE ANOTHER PERSON IS TO SEE THE FACE OF GOD"- LES MISERABLES---
"THERE'S A SPECIAL KIND OF PEOPLE KNOWN AS SHOW PEOPLE... WE'RE BORN EVERY NIGHT AT HALF HOUR CALL!"--- CURTAINS
Partly selfish reasons cause I plan to see at least four shows when I'm there in January, but also because I've been through a couple in my job and the impact on all considered is not worth the misery.
Add my vote to the "Please No." First of all, strikes are just miserable for anyone involved. And second (kind of selfish), I finally get to go on break from school at the end of december/first week of january, and am looking forward to seeing some shows! I do not want this strike to happen!
The last one was hellish. I remember how the talks just kept breaking down because they couldn't settle it like adults. Wasn't there something about one of the producers throwing gloves on the table and going, "Here. It's gonna be cold out there?"
Just awful. And, for purely selfish reasons, I don't wanna miss finally seeing Newsies for my birthday. But truly. I doubt many of the currently running shows could stand a strike - imagine Mary Poppins missing out on the end of the holidays. That alone could kill more than one show.
I work in a union theater and the unionized workers don't strike. They continue to work under the old contract until a new one is ratified and then get any raises retroactively.
