'There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently'
-Robert Evans-
I'm a fan of her work and have always really liked her very positive energy and charm. If she does identify as lesbian, I welcome her to the Out, Loud and Proud universe. Happy to have her. We will send her coupon book and welcome basket over promptly...
You think, what do you want?
You think, make a decision...
Her lesbianism has been an open secret for years, so it's nice to see her (seemingly) acknowledge it in a major way now.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Doesn't sound like she's trying to dodge anything -- she's telling people that it's simply none of our damn business whether she's gay or not.
Sounds like a pretty classy young lady. Good for her.
I don't care if she's gay, anymore than I care which celebritiess are Jewish, republicans, vegetarians, or foot fetishists.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Isn't saying "my sexuality is my business" usually the equivalent of coming out?

My cousin used to see her at bars in Brooklyn all the time with other women, so this is no surprise to me. I don't care if she's gay, straight or whatever - I just think she's awesome.
As far as 'celebreties' qua celebrity go--I could give a damn. But when confronted with an artist or performer whose work I like and respect who feels compelled to share publicly their support for the GOP, the NRA etc.? I lose that sense of connection that makes watching them perform thrilling.
I spend weekends in Litchfield County, surrounded by conservative voters, and I often think how grateful I am that I don't know how some of my neighbors--Sondheim, Streep, LuPone--vote. My fantasy that the intelligence of their work guarantees their intelligence remains intact.

"My sexuality is my business" is the spoiled Hollywood brat equivalent to saying "I'm gay, but not allowed to admit it, but please still talk about it to keep me relevant."
It's your business, and the more you advertise, the more "business" you get.
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
My point is: their choices are their choices, and it's none of my business how they lead their lives. (Not trying to imply that sexuality is a choice - I'm lumping all my examples into one lump for now.) I'm not going to like a performer more OR less if he/she is or isn't gay (or Jewish or republican or anything else.)
If I do find out that someone I admire is repugnant in his her views/actions, that's a different story (Mel Gibson springs to mind).

Latifah's been known for over 10 years now. She's just never made it "offical" by Hollywood standards.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Coach Bob knew it all along: you've got to get obsessed and stay obsessed. You have to keep passing the open windows. (John Irving, The Hotel New Hampshire)
So, she essentially pulled a Raven in that article.

To be fair, this isn't really her fault. All these news outlets pounced on the story of her performing at Long Beach like she was making a big statement, but I figured they were getting ahead of themselves.
I'm with Jordan on this one. How hard could it have been to say that she is in a relationship with another woman?
And the way the article comes across makes her sound like she thinks gays are just a good, fun pay check.

“I hesitate to give this line of discussion the validation it so desperately craves by perpetuating it, but the light from logic is getting further and further away with your every successive post.” <<>>
