The new Broadway musical, 'Nice Work If You Can Get', is to get a cast recording. The company go to the studios next week with a summer release expected.
A recording of Kelli O'Hara singing Gershwin will be a must buy for me! (or Kelli O'Hara singing anything!)
I've loved her in everything I've seen her in - Dracula, The Light In the Piazza, Pajama Game & South Pacific. And I recently bought her solo album, which is absolutely wonderful.

Recently got the Houston Grand Opera recording which has just been reissued on the "Sony Opera House" series - over three hours of bliss! Also looking forward to the New Broadway Recording with Audra.
I agree, Mama! Whatever Gershwin's music is, it is cetainly not bland. He wrote some of the greatest songs of all time - soaring melodies with an almost unique gift for capturing the essence of the America of his age. And such variety - from the catchy ditties of songs like They All Laughed & let's Call the Whole Thing Off to the rich and earthy soul of Porgy And Bess with the haunting beauty of Someone To Watch Over Me, But Not For Me, How Long has This Been Going On, etc. in between.
He was without question the greatest American composer of his era - some would say of any era.

Crazy for You has very good cast recordings both the original Broadway and London companies, I like Kelli O'Hara so look forward to hearing Nice Work.
Wonder if Nice Work could work in London, I think it would need a names for the leads and given that the revival of Crazy for You only did a few months, it could be a risky but then again old fashion musicals are back in vogue thanks to Singin' in the Rain and Top Hat.
POL, try to find "A tribute to Gershwin" that was broadcast by the bbc almost 20 years ago. Never heard anyone call Gershwin "bland" before. I'm in shock
