I don't get the "he's not very attractive" sentiment.

I'm aware tastes differ and all, but I just don't see what's so borderline ugly about him. Usually there's a grain of truth or at least rationale as to how more than a few people see what they say they do. In this case, I just don't see "kinda fugly," and it's starting to look like people feel the need to lust after him in order to make Eponine's drama believable or something. Maybe if his face resembled ass, OK. But he's more than just a bit nice looking enough. What are people expecting?

I like the costumes, not too theatrical even if Enjolras is wearing his iconic red...but I like the way Javert looks best - he is very nondescript as he attempts to blend in with the rebels. On stage, Javert was dressed a little too obviously, drawing attention to him. Btw, in one of the photos, the boy beside Russell is the young actor who plays Gavroche!

I have not anticipated a movie as much I am doing for this one, for sometime now. From what I see, the movie looks like it will exceed expectations - it looks like it is going to be an epic!

Eddie is also a male model, currently he's splashed all over UK billboards, etc. for Burberry.

Eddie is not just a model or a movie actor - he is also an excellent stage actor - a rare Olivier/Tony winner for the same role ( RED)!

I hope he does full justice to Empty Chairs at Empty Tables - he does have big shoes to fill, vocally-speaking - comparing him to the original Marius ( Michael Ball)!

I'm one of the people who think Eddie can go from very attractive to Barney Fife in a heartbeat, so I imagine you're absolutely right about styling his hair to make him the most attractive here, yet not deviate too far away from the period of the film.

I do think he looks pretty great in these candid photos, and I'm glad to say it, too. So they're doing their job. Hopefully, the (film) camera will pick it up, too.

As far as his talent, I have never questioned that. I've always found him to be an interesting, solid actor, and the fact that he can sing so well is just icing on the cake.

EDIT: I will also say that the older he gets, the more he seems to be "maturing" into his features. I imagine he'll only continue to get better looking with age.

And for those who say "I don't get the ugly comments," just Google around. You don't have to go far to prove the point. But we did that already in other threads, so no need to post the "Ugly Eddie" pictures here.

To me, he's so attractive that I can't fully comprehend someone thinking he's not attractive. I accept the concept intellectually, but can't rationalize it. I'd be interested in a photo that changes my opinion, but I've never seen one. He seems to be strikingly gorgeous all the time.

EDIT: And I've gone through pages and pages of Google Images. I just can't not see it.

Someone on another board said they thought he looked like a frog - may have something to do with his lips I'm guessing. Sounds like he has a gorgeous voice and I can't wait to see/hear him sing "Empty Chairs."

**exaggerated shrug**

I think he's stop-in-your-tracks stunning in that photo.

My comments weren't meant as a personal challenge, bestie. Google Image is going to produce the same results for me as for you or anyone else, so I've probably already seen any photo that someone might use as an example. I was just expressing my befuddlement!

EDIT: Yes, it's a great divide

Back to hair missteps ... I've only seen one photo of Eponine so far, but she has bangs ... BANGS hanging down by her eyes.

Nobody, male or female, wore straight-cut bangs back in the early 1800s. Show me any historical paintings from any countries and class (rich or poor) who wore bangs. Granted, many Eponines on Broadway had them, and it's historically inaccurate. Everything I've seen so far from the film seemed to be correcting that. They were really going for "realness." But the bangs killed that, even more than Marius's boy-band flip.

EDIT: And growl, it's only an opinion. If you think he's stunningly gorgeous, particularly in that second photo, who am I to argue? I don't agree, though, not by a long shot.

Eddie isn't my kind of attractive but it's not like he hit all the branches on the ugly tree on the way down either. I've met him a few times at some fashion things and he's an incredibly charismatic guy. The camera just loves him too. I don't think anyone here has doubted his talent. He was certainly unexpected but inspired casting. I don't think when this movie announced would have even put him in the frame for the role.
I'm not overly fussed about Eponines hair, though it does seem unusual seeing as they've seemingly been so careful with a lot of historical details. It's so hard to tell from just a few photos from set though.

I'm getting so excited looking at all the images. Everyone looks great so far, yes even Eddie, whom I personally have the hots for.

Also digging Anne Hathaway's boy short do that she's been photographed sporting recently.

Btw, anyone know who Hadley Fraser is playing in this? Is he one of the students? or perhaps the turd who breaks Fantine's heart (aka: Cosette's daddy) I'm willing to bet a lot of money part of "I Dreamed..." will be a flashback.

Someone filmed singing from the set.... 'do you hear the people sing..' (although I'm not sure it's Eddie singing like it says since Marius doesn't have a solo in that song).

Fan2, it sounds like Aaron at the beginning? (As it should be, as Enjolras sings that part in the musical.) I hope they didn't randomly switch it. The singing sounds great, whoever it is. I got crazy CHILLS when the chorus came in with the harmony.

I haven't been this excited about a musical film in a long, long time. Even Burton's SWEENEY didn't have me feeling as optimistic because I didn't sense he had as much affection for the material as Hooper and his team.

It's pretty low but it has to be Aaron since Enjolras is the one that starts the song and I don't think they would change that.

as far as movie adapts go, this one, in my opp. is looking great. I only wish Phantom could have been done properly like this and not a load of camp.

I know that recording of 'Do You Hear the People Sing?' isn't great quality but it certainly gave me goosebumps. Even the sort of echo off the buildings works, which will they'll no doubt alter in post.

First of all, it's extremely difficult to remove an echo (not the same thing as adding it), and you only get very limited, and usually obviously synthetic results.

The whole point of them singing live in this film is so that it doesn't sound like the singing was prerecorded in a studio.

They will embrace the echo and any other ambient sounds with loving arms (and soundboard knobs). I'm sure the sound designer's only issue will be "does it sound like they're singing in the actual location"? If not, they'll have to work on it.

Also --- remember that the echo you're hearing in this bootleg recording is from the location of that (tiny) mic. That's not where the people are actually singing (you can see them way off in the distance), so who knows if it's right for where they are?
