Variety reports that Paula Wagner, who is also in negotiations to create a Broadway musical based on the rap group Run-DMC, is working with Miss Saigon's original stage producer Cameron Mackintosh to create a film adaptation of the Tony-nominated property.

Director and producer Lee Daniels ("Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" and "Monster's Ball") has mentioned Miss Saigon as a possibility for his upcoming directorial projects.

Those behind the project are hoping to begin production next year with a 2011 theatrical release. A screenwriter is currently being secured.

If Wing doesn't get cast as Kim, there's no justice in the world.

It'll be Martin Guerre next.

I should be really happy, but I'm afraid they'll end up casting Brenda Song as Kim or something.

Edit: What is everyone's dream cast?

Double edit: Wait, no, the girl who plays Tina on Glee as Kim :o

Can people do a search and refrain from creating new threads on topics that have other postings?

That was news regarding his wanting to direct it, though. This is news saying there is actually going to be a script written.

Edit: Anna Maria Perez de Tagle would work, too. Even if she is a Disney actress she has a good voice.

You didn't have to open the link. The title on the thread very clearly says what it is about. If you didn't want to read another post on the same or similar topic, why open it at all?

It won't be a surprise if Mac went back to the Philippines to find a new face, someone as talented and authentic as Lea Salonga.

Not to nitpick but wouldn't a truly authentic Kim be from Vietnam and not the Philippines?

And actually BrodyFosse, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I used the search engine provided here (I'm new, my apologies) and came up with nothing. I also searched the first pages of threads here and came up with nothing. No hard intended. Sorry if I raised anyone's blood pressure.

maybe they'll cast that little David Foster prodigy who sings like Whitney and Celine: Charice.

She could definitely sing it. who knows about anything else.

I actually think Charice would be a good choice for Kim if she has the acting chops. And, uh, Chris doesn't look creepily older.

We'll find out if Charice has acting chops when she shows up in Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. I think she plays Alvin's competition in the film

Charice may have the voice, but she's not very attractive... She's not Hollywood material. I saw her when she sang at the Garden with Celine Dion, but I don't see her as Kim at all...

"We'll find out if Charice has acting chops when she shows up in Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. I think she plays Alvin's competition in the film"

That should automatically disqualify her, not only for the role, but from acting ever again.

"Charice may have the voice, but she's not very attractive... She's not Hollywood material."

I think she has an appropriate look for the role.

Like I said, right now my choices would be Charice, Jenna Ushkowitz, or Anna Maria Perez de Tagle. I'd also be fine with an unknown provided she can sing and act well enough.

much as i love lea, i think she's a little bit too old of the role now. i wish they filmed this 10 years ago. but i think theres a better choice with charice, the up-coming diva , youtube phenom and oprah protege. she's 17, can sing sweet to power belt! here she is performing her single " note to god" at oprah :

lou diamond phillips, b.d. wong or alec mapa would make a perfect "engineer". justin timberlake as chris. christina aguillera as ellen.

You had me agreeing with you until you suggested Christina and Justin for Ellen and Chris.

I wonder if Lucy Hale would be old enough for Ellen by the time they begin filming. I like Ben Barnes for Chris.

Is B.D. Wong young enough for the Engineer? Of course, they never specify his age, do they? But you kind of get hints in "The American Dream."

Though good, she's too young--Kim's 17 and this girl is only 13.

Ok first of all Julia abueva in that clip is also a Filipina.

Everybody was mentioning a lot of Filipina here as a possible Kim.

Charice
Ana Maria de Tagle
Julia Abueva

I don't mind having Filipina but give the other Asians a chance too! Im a Fil as well and proud of them but Asians are REALLY starting to HATE us cause of all of these hypes about Filipinos and Filipina in Hollywood, Broadway etc.

Don't help us become alienated from our cousins cause there as much talent in Asia and its not only concentrated in the Philippines.

Lea took a lot of flak from the Vietnamese community when she took that role as Kim or did anybody did not remember that episode?

Though I would love charice to play Kim, I would rather want to see other Asians other than a Filipina for the role.
