Here's "The I Love You Song" from Spelling Bee, that I saw this high school perform at a local theatre festival. I was so amazed at the performances, that I went back for the second show that night, just to see it again! (And yes, I was all too familiar with the show before hand, too). Damn, these kids are talented, though.
No footage, but I will always say that my introduction to Sondheim was a brilliant high school production of Sweeney Todd. It's worth noting that I was fourteen and incredibly unversed in theatre, so I wonder what I would think seeing the same production today.
That Les Mis production was very good, mostly impressed with the orchestra who sounded nearly flawless.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
After watching a bunch of terrible high school performances, I thought to bring this thread back. I don't know if this counts because its not a High School, but its pretty good. Does that sound like a real orchestra though? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I3mUUm5gPQ
MKunkel, I'm pretty sure I saw that production. A friend of a friend was part of the creative team. It is a professional orchestra and the show used rented sets, props, and costumes.
The impressive part is that the show was double cast (some roles triple cast if I remember correctly), ensemble and all. The reason I wasn't sure at first if I saw the production was that I did not see this particular cast.
It's a pricey summer program, but everyone who wants to participate can participate and they put out good work. The kids are junior high and high school students, so close enough for this thread.
Trentsketch, interesting! It looked rather good. I found some other videos from that particular theatre as well and they did Ragtime as well. Pretty good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDIGWi-kxwU
