I don't know...I half expect Bugs Bunny to burst through it.

I like the idea and some of the design. But I don't like the execution. They need to add a texture to the curtain, it looks too smooth and computer generated, And it looks a little Wild West Saloon Show in style and font...combine that with the Pixar feel and I expect Woody to burst through if Bugs doesn't.

Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

Looks like more marketing software Print Shop projects. I just get the feeling they don't use artists, but just young Marketing majors in business school.

Kad nails it -- it's really the sans-serif used for 'Edwin Drood' that throws the composition off balance. Although from a design perspective, the art-deco font works nicely at the center of the stylized serif fonts -- it pulls you right out of the period (1870s-1900). It feels more reminiscent of the type of treatment seen on Universal Studios film posters of the 20's and 30s...I half expected Claude Rains to be headlining!

I think best12bars said it best -- they should be aiming for something between the two pieces of art they've used so far. Luhrmann evoked that wonderful Edwardian/turn of the century aesthetic (albeit through the lens of the Belle Epoque). Paul Davis' original Broadway artwork didn't necessarily scream 1890's London, but it definitely was evocative of the show. I like this poster a great deal, but the art-deco type needs to go and they really need to dirty it up a bit!

Out of curiosity, do most shows put so many performers above the title? Maybe the idea of refunds should a player above the title be out has mostly been retired, but it seems ambitious of them to put five actors up there.

That being said, I know nothing of their attendance history. I'd assume Chita is true to her craft and I'm fairly certain that Stephanie is known to have good history. Not sure about the other three.

EDIT: I can't find the link to the advertisement I just saw on Playbill, but they're still billing them all above the title. Updated On: 9/24/12 at 09:04 AM
