How about people on these boards learn to only respond if they have something helpful to say instead of being a whiny dick?

I don't see the harm in simply asking advice from people who know Broadway better than I do.

As you have seen-every person has a different opinion-so when you FINALLY make a decision, based on some strangers' opinion, and you end up hating the show----who will you blame ???

Life is full of making decisions eg.look around you today, you just have to learn to live with the choice you made be it Cats, or the future.

Good Luck and hope you enjoy Cats though suggest you read T.S.Eliots 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats' first then just go and enjoy the spectacle/music and dancing.

If you see Cats make sure you know what it is going in. It's a revue built around a book of poems set to music. "Memory" is sung twice and considered the "hit" song. Nothing else in the score has had much life beyond the show.

Beyond the poems you get a lot of dancing in cat costumes. Some have described the show as "sexy" while others think the costumes and makeup make everyone look "hideous." Your mileage may vary.

barbraboy, Cats is a dance show. With very little story or plot, and the music is secondary to the dancing imo. If that doesn't sound enjoyable to you, maybe opt out, but the cast is very talented.

On the ALW thing, I thought cats came off best of the 3 in this ALW mashup with SOR and Phantom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gajlhP-OcMQ

You obviously wanted to see it, so you bought tickets for it. Just go and enjoy it.

I got my refund and am seeing Present Laughter instead. Hopefully I made the right choice!

Yes Cats is a dance show with lousy choreography and 3 good numbers at most- the rest is crap!

well, barbraboy19902 will never know whether Cats is good, bad or indifferent since barbraboy isn't going to see the show and will never know if the right choice for barbraboy19902 was made.

For the record, I did not like Cats and was bored the first time I saw it from the second balcony at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco.  The video was a little better but still dull. But, to honor a promise to a 5 year old to take her to see Cats on Broadway someday.... I ended up seeing it at the Winter Garden shortly before it closed the first time- and the show was magical and a terrific evening.  And I have no opinion on the current revival.

I think I'd have loved the original show, and I love reading about the original design and direction. This "revival" just felt flat and dated and boring and uninspired. They tried to make it appealing by getting the "hip" choreographer to spice up the show, but it's still a pretty bland show. It needs spectacle, and the revival had none. Changing Christmas lights does not make a spectacle, boo.

not that it mattered at the end of the day since the Tony Awards Nominating committee deemed Andy B;s choreo ineligible for nomination..

Sitting through it, I didn't even realize he had changed anything until I posted on here...so yeah.... I don't think he's great. He just happened to hitch his wagon to some great collaborators....

V different from the diehard Cats fans who think he changed it horribly from the original.

I'm not a diehard. Couldn't tell you what he changed or where. It still sucked.

You are being generous, it has one good song , and it is very fortunate that it is one of the all-time greats...right up there with Puccini, IMO.  The rest of the show is one bloody bore. Every number seemed the same, I was miserable throughout, thankful that ALW was smart enough to end both acts with a complete rendition of Memory.  That way, some folks could block out how awful the rest of the show was.  I would not go back to see this show if I was offered 10th row, center aisle seats for free.  Life is too short.

I have to admit that one of the reasons I hated it (vs. intensely disliking it) was because I had really good seats and had cats climbing around me, which I really thought was stupid.

It's so bad and so boring. It's everything everyone has always said it was.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

He said numbers not songs.
