It would be great but JCM leaves for London this week to start shooting the new Gaiman movie.

Okay, so nobody fly off the handle when I say this, but I'm being completely serious when I ask:
Does anyone else thing that Harry Styles from One Direction would make a good Hedwig? Assuming his acting chops could be brought up to par I feel like he would be an excellent person to take on the role in the London production (albeit maybe in a few years - though Darren Criss proved anything is possible). He has that dramatic yet edgy personality and look for it, not to mention the voice, so I kind of think he is a natural.
I know this might be a controversial idea so I'd be interested to hear some thoughts.
Just because one "sings" doesn't mean they can act or be on Broadway. ( And he's too young.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Oh trust me dramamama I know & I agree with you, and his acting ability is something I called into question. But, as I was saying, (in my opinion) he seems like the perfect type. He is an incredibly energetic performer with a fantastic voice, and I do think he could carry a show like that based on his experience if he could indeed act it. He is a very outspoken supporter of gender equality and gay rights to boot (not saying those are qualifications, but I think the role would be something he would identify with), and I think this could be a good vehicle for him. I agree he is much too young (we also said the same about Darren), but it was just a thought I had.
seriously, i don't know how annoying the Darren fans really were or weren't during his run. but i have no doubt that seeing Hedwig in a theater full of One Direction fans would be a fairly torturous experience.

If you want to see Harry in tiny black shorts, sure. Otherwise, not really.
First, he isn't very good at al-libbing. Whenever he jokes on talk shows and doesn't get the response he expects, he's comments on it. Either saying he was joking, or questioning why no one thought it was funny.
As for bringing his acting chops up to par, that raises the question "what chops?" Even Harry says if you want to see why he doesn't do any acting, watch his one time on iCarly as an example of why he shouldn't do any.
He is also in the one band that has vehemently resisted doing any choreography, except for the tiny parts that only seem to be a joke about proving that they can't dance.
Plus, he is primarily known for his hair.
So, why would he be part if he can't show his hair, act, land jokes, speak in a German accent, all while his famous hair is hidden under a wig? Seems like you just want him to sing the songs from Hedwig, or else become a different person.
Also, I think he may be too young in that Hedwig is "world weary" (if you get my drift.) I don't know much about Harry so I wonder if he's experienced enough in life yet to feel the role.

He's way too young! And I don't even think Darren's age should be considered. I've always seen him as an exception. He's young, but he lived with this character for 10 of his 28 years of life (if I'm remembering correctly) and he pursued them. If he hadn't been a big fan with strong grasp on the show and character I don't think they would've gone with him.
I doubt they'll go younger than 30 again without restructuring the show to take place in the late 90s-early 00s.
Do we have any idea if the production is planning something special for the closing performance? Or is it just going to be Taye Diggs as Hedwig, maybe Michael Mayer gives a curtain speech and then we all go home?
I could definitely see him in the role. He does seem to have the personality and the vibe for the character, but (and don't get offended when I say this, I love him to pieces) I don't think he has what it takes to be on Broadway. He just isn't a Broadway star.
