They also have some shows I believe only in bootleg videos that they got permission to use (though the ctual filming they do for most shows is pretty basic camera at the back of the theatre stuff). Like with flops shows such as Merrily. And yeah, it's too bad Fosse was against the filming of his shows (except, I guess he was talked into Pippin--I finally saw the Fosse cut of that and wish it could be released on DVD).
I'd kill to seethe tour of Company--I know it's B&W, and I believe only Donna McKechnie is there from the original production, and the set is slightly simplified (no elevtors), but I'd still kill to see it...
Wow this has always fascinated me that they have some shows on tapes. So this might be too random for them to allow me to watch a show? I'm 16 and super interested and motivated to become either a performer or set designer. My school is doing Thoroughly Modern Millie, and they asked me to design the sets, and there are no pictures on any good videos anywhere. Do you think they'd let me watch it for ideas?
Oh, yes! I'm a librarian myself (though I don't work for NYPL), and if you come in saying you're designing sets for your high school musical, I'd bet they would love to help you! :) The folks who work there are very nice.
Quick question for those who have done it recently:
How is the library card checked? For example, one of my friends' children is a college student and she wants to watch a show. Can she use my library card or does she have to get her own?

^^^ So she can make a reservation with TOFT to see a tape and then get a temp card when she gets to NYC? TOFT doesn't require a library card number in advance?

And for the temp library card, is there a fee and what type(s) of id does she need to present to get one?
