That would require them to break their contract with Ambassador Theatre Group, negotiate a new one with the Shuberts, re-design the sets, refund the tickets sold for the Lyric and transfer all the new ticket information from Ticketmaster to Telecharge. Not a realistic proposition that late in the game.
Well, there was that talk of The Heidi Chronicles with Jason Biggs. Maybe some producers are hoping he's a big enough draw to fill that space for a limited twelve week or so run.
With the recent success in London' West End and especiall with American tourists seem to adore this, but an outside bet could be RSC's Roots Hall/Bring Up The Bodies.
It is about to wrap up a very successful sold out 6 months here.
"Someone said it'll be a straight play. So, I'm not quite sure."
Yes, I have heard a play was/is looking at the Winter Garden but that doesn't mean it will be offered to them, or that they would take it if offered. So I agree, I'm not quite sure either.
"With the recent success in London' West End and especially with American tourists seem to adore this, but an outside bet could be RSC's Wolf Hall/Bring Up The Bodies."
Rebecca!!!!! Interestingly enough Sierra and Jill Paice just left their respective shows! It's a joke, but it would be a hell of a shock if it made it in this season!
I think Wolf Hall/Bring up the Bodies is aiming for late 2015, the Winter Garden would be far too big for it. I reckon the RSC and its commercial producers will look at theatres like the Richard Rodgers, Brooks Atkinson, The Jacobs or Schoenfeld.
The show is tiny. Even with a name recognizable in the theater world, like Laura Osnes, it would struggle greatly. It's a fun, light show, but it needs to be in a small theater. Plus, I fear it would struggle for buyers who wanted a traditional song-and-dance musical with the offerings already announced for the season.
I did say in an earlier post a distant outside bet, but those distant outside bets do come in.
I feel Wolf Hall/Bring Up The Bodies could succeed at the Winter Gardens, if it is house sitting for a bigger show to come in, such as Miss Saigon.
Board members have alluded to the next show being a play and the Winter Garden is only 300 seats bigger than the Aldwych in London's West End, so if you did have the mentioned plays as a house sitter for a planned bigger show to eventually come in and do your business plan on selling a 1000 seats to make a return, then I can see it as possible Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies coming in. Judging by the amount of American tourists that I saw at the Aldwych then all the signs are it could do rather well.
The only reason to bring a play in would be to house sit and that would definitely be for Miss Saigon.

‘Wolf Hall’ and Its Sequel Aiming for Broadway After London Success By PATRICK HEALY September 10, 2014
"Broadway and London producers are in talks about a New York run of the hit British play “Wolf Hall” and its sequel “Bring Up the Bodies,” based on the historical novels by Hilary Mantel about Henry VIII and his adviser Thomas Cromwell, according to theater executives with knowledge of the discussions. No deals have been finalized, but the veteran Broadway producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel are aiming to mount the plays in the spring, possibly at the Winter Garden Theater, said the executives, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks are confidential."
Well there you go you heard it from me first un-officially, but from Patrick Healy officially first, who seems to be getting all the scoops lately. Michael Riedel still does good eulogies when a theatre veteran dies.
Wolf Hall/Bring up the Bodies isn't a big show which is why I think the Winter Garden would be an odd choice for the plays when they do come to Broadway. There is no big names so the plays will be relying on the fact it's a known title and that it was a huge hit in London. But then again, we've seen plays succeed in musical houses like August Osage County, All the Way, Blithe Spirit etc so perhaps it could work but I think it has a better chance of being a hit in a smaller theatre like the ones I've already suggested.
