"I just can't justify watching another Tv show about this family. I believe they have 6 tv shows about them?"

I spared myself that issue by making this one the first I've ever watched.

I have nothing but respect for her but the reality show turned out to be better than expected, but honestly this was kinda bland and so scripted that I'm shocked anybody ( well maybe not Namo) thought this was great. She looked like she was reading off a cue card for half of it, the whole set up with the mum etc just seemed desperate and odd and the tag on with her meeting the poor kids parents felt forced. It's not a bad show at all and I hope it reaches who it needs to, but it was not a great first episode, far from it.

I know you have a vocabulary of one word when you want to praise something ("great") but I have a bigger one than you.  The word I used to describe the show was "moving".  And before you go off and get all headbandy about how that is just my opinion that it was MOVING, I would like to reiterate to you for the umpteenth time that anything I post (you can tell I'm doing that because it has my name next to it) is, in point of fact, my opinion.

Maybe I'll be slammed for this, but I don't really care.  I've seen enough of Caitlyn.  I don't need to see a TV show about her and I'm certainly tired of seeing her on every news cycle.  I don't give a crap what she's wearing today.

"Take away her politics, her wealth and privilege and what you have left is that she is a human being...just like the rest of us"

No, and she will NEVER be like the rest of us.  She will always have her lackeys, her stylists, her handlers, her script writers.  I'm more concerned with the people who aren't filthy rich, and who live in fear EVERY day of their lives, living out here in the normal world, without body guards.

I hate reality shows, except for the cooking, make up and fashion shows.  I won't be wasting my time seeing how a privileged trans-person lives.

That all seems fair.  The positive things I have to say are based on the fact that she mentioned the less privileged on the show.  In case people need a reminder, I never said the show was "great."  "The Comeback" is a great TV show.

3 things Namo, I'm glad you were moved by a contrived reality show.

And please don't be using the 'your opinion' argument when everybody knows that when you voice your opinion you always think yours is right and everybody else is wrong.

And where has the 'great' comment come from that you have just pulled out of your ass? I hope my vocab is far more vast or all the people who have given me awards and nominated my plays must feel rather silly.

The biggest problem I had with this show is it managed to be uniformative and dull. As I say I hope it gets better and it was not the car crash I was thinking it was going to be, but it needs something more than soft music and celebrity cameos from Kanye and Kim to make it something worthwhile. This would have been far better on a different network as E is useless when it comes to anything that could be weighty issues.

The fact that she had stylists with her round the clock was more than a bit off-putting. "Do you want me to choose some things for you?" "I have picked three and you can choose." I mean, it was just her mom and sisters coming over. Then Kimye. Vomit.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

As Bette Midler used to say, "What kind of a$$hole question is that?"

I'm giving my opinion.  If you don't like it, then go pound some sand.

No I don't.  You say that to me a lot, but it's what's going on in your head, not mine. You have a two word critical vocabulary, go back and look at the Madonna thread.  If she does something terrible, you say it's "fine".  If she does something you like, it's "great".  Go look at what you said about the rehearsal video.

The first episode of this series moved me.  Very often I am moved by things that are contrived to move people. I know what I'm watching, and yet, I was moved.

[Please note: I still don't think it was "great" television.]

So, I got around to watching the show and I really thought it would be more profound and humanizing than what I witnessed. I have to agree with the others, I found it very trite and forced. I felt like I was being emotionally manipulated and that put a bad taste in my mouth. The most cringe worthy moment was when Cait sought "empowering words" from the biggest D-bag in Hollywood: Kanye West.

I'm confused as to why it even needs to be a TV show at all. I can validate Cait doing an  hour long special with Oprah or Barbra Walters or something like that. But why a tv show? Especially on a junk channel like E ?

Maybe I'm being too harsh. I thought there were some really nice genuine moments but I found most of it manipulating and too excessive.

Re-read what I wrote: TAKE AWAY her wealth and privilege (which include her lackeys, stylists, her handlers and her script writers)...and she is a human being just like the rest of us.

If you want to concern yourself with only those who aren't as you put it "filthy rich" that is your prerogative but she also deserves compassion, understanding and support just like anyone else who is transgendered regardless of her financial status or political affiliation.

You can say "take away her wealth" but that is just not going to happen.  I don't live in a hypothetical world.

I have nothing against her, or her choices.  I hope she is happy now.

But to give someone a courage award after she hid this for decades, tippy toed around her house in dresses in the middle of the night, and then brags that the story has always been about HER, makes me queasy.

The award should have gone to someone who has been fighting OPENLY for years, not just the last few months.

Also, it seems to me like a desperate attempt to stay in the spotlight.  He has enough money, he should be building shelters and reaching out to people who need help.  Not starring in his own reality show, and  interviewing families who have lost loved ones.

I won't see the show, I've seen enough from the commercials to see that it's totally staged, totally forced and totally fake.

Just like Marcus Bachmann at a Provincetown spit-roast, I'm stuck in the middle on this one.  I watched the first episode.  I'm glad I did.  I definitely won't go out of my way to catch another episode, though.  I thought that for what it was - an E! reality series - it was very well done.  I was genuinely moved by Caitlyn's mother - both her struggle and her seemingly swift turn in the direction of acceptance and love.  I also enjoyed watching Caitlyn's older sister who seemed to be an intelligent and compassionate woman.  I admire Caitlyn's courage and her full embrace of a new mission in life as an advocate for trans rights and I get the impression that her outreach to members of the trans community are genuine and not solely motivated by the desire for more fame and money.

Unfortunately, Caitlyn and the whole Jenner/Kardashian clan have been carefully crafting these cool, detached on-camera personas for so long (thanks, E! School of 'Acting') that when they interact with people who have not spent the past decade+ in performative scripted "reality", they end up looking like weird, emotionless androids attempting stilted impressions of genuine human beings.  I mean, watch the ways in which they awkwardly hug each other, or don't make eye contact or don't seem to register any genuine emotion - then contrast that with the way that Jenner's mother and sisters act.  The meeting with the mother of the young San Diego teen who commited suicide made me cringe.  Not because the meeting was happening - the mother seemed genuinely appreciative - but because of how oddly Caitlyn would respond to everything the mother was telling her as though she was being told a story about a nice picnic the family took.

Again, I admire and support how Caitlyn is using her celebrity to advocate for trans people who are not as privileged as she is.  But, as her mother said, the exterior may change, but the inner soul doesn't.  As an on-camera personality, Bruce was duller than dishwater and Caitlyn is as well.

Two random things I enjoyed in this ep:

Caitlyn's exquisite penmanship (when signing her mother's b'day card).

Seeing Kanye be so, ya know, DTE and soft spoken.

PS - just to confirm, Namo, you thought the show was "GREAT", right?

It could be the facial plastic surgery that affects Caitlyn's expressions, or lack thereof.

I thought she was genuine in caring about transgender kids and in her interaction with Kyle's mom.

I also think she's naturally more than a bit self-conscious these days, all things considered, especially when a camera is on her. And yes, I know that is her choice, but I also do not believe it is for "ego" alone; I think she really means to do good through being so public.  I still basically believe that people are people, and that most people are good, naive as that may sound. No, I'm not rich (but wouldn't mind being), and I sure don't need anyone to help me choose what pair of sweat pants and tee shirt I'm going to wear any given day. But then I'm not a celebrity appearing on a reality tv show.

Now I will admit that there's another reality show about a transgender person that I like to watch even more than I Am Cait, and that's the one on TLC, "I Am Jazz." And yea, it's scripted too, what reality show isn't, but she is one pretty cool kid, and what a loving, supportive, protective family.
