I read somewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that Gaga was just going to be a guest star for a couple episodes. So this makes sense.

WhizzerMarvin said: "Ray, although it clearly said dramatic re-enactment during the opening Paulson/Gooding Jr scene I'm guessing that there will indeed be a twist with the documentary aspect of the show. Namely, I think it will turn out the documentary will be a mockumentary of sorts with the Paulson cast being the REAL characters and the Rabe cast being the actors hired to play them for a tv special. Remember Paulson's tv psychic character from Murder House and Hotel? I wouldn't be surprised if she hired Rabe, et al for her tv show of the case of the missing couple at Roanoke. I think there's still a chance Paulson and crew are dead.

As for the premiere- I loved it! For the first time in three seasons the show actually served up some scares. They also trimmed the focus and actually told a story instead of creating atmosphere that goes nowhere for 60 minutes. Imagine- telling a story in the premiere of a tv season! This IS a foreign concept to Murphy, so let's give him props where they're due.

Why wasn't Gaga in the closing credits? Is she just a special guest star this season?

I hated Coven- was frustrated with Freak Show and actually came to enjoy certain aspects of Hotel; Denis O'Hare had one of the best AHS characters ever in season five. Can't we all just celebrates the positives like no Emma Roberts this season? Ha

"

I personally loved Emma Roberts and thought she was the best part of Coven!

She was also nice in freak show.

whats with the hate for freak show and asylum? They are my favorites after the first season. I couldn't really get into coven or hotel though.

She's actually in the trailer for the season in a glimpse.

i really liked this one!  The problem to me with Hotel and Freaks was it seem at least to me that they were just trying to be shocking to be shocking.  This reminds me of the show Forensic Files or even Dateline where they tell a story and have actors reenacting them.  If it remains like this I will be very happy.  As for Gaga, love your songs, hate your acting., or should I say posing.

Hotel was shocking but got thru it. After about 20 minutes of Freak Show, we have up. Did not care for it.

They're already losing me.  Finding the talking heads describe it and then actors act it out back and forth tiresome and redundant.  These have to be the 3 dumbest people ever.    Though at least they seem to be done blaming the hillbillies for the raining teeth and ritual sacrifices.    And did Kathy Bates only agree to come back if she could put an animal head on someone, again? And is Gaga playing Pepper 2.0?

So I loved the first two episodes and now this is getting a little too repetitive and boring.

I think it would have been much more interesting if the talking heads were the "actors" (since they seem too stiff and boring, as if they didn't REALLY experience what we are watching unfold) and the scenes we see are the real life Shelby/Matt/Lee. Because if this is how it continues, it pretty much loses any and all suspense since we know they lived and are telling the story

Also, WHY is Kathy bates using such a horrible accent and WHERE is Evan Peters?!

I think the reason Kathy Bates continues signing up for AHS is because she likes using it as a testing ground for bizarre, unnecessary accents.

I don't like the documentary format. I expect it to change at some point, and I suspect Evan Peters' character will contribute to that in some way. But for now, I think it's kind of boring.

I could not get through Hotel either. Thought the premises was OK. Would have preferred someone else over.Cuba ..

Wow, what an improvement over the last two seasons!

I am loving the pastiche of similar shows which interview people claiming paranormal experiences while having actors reenact them.  And the dumb and ill-advised actions of the haunted seems right on, eerily reminiscent of exactly those kind of programs.

Beyond which, it's scaring the &*() out of me.

We need to start a  drinking game where we drink every time Kathy Bates changes her accent.

Lady Gaga's and Wes Bentley's accents are all over the place, too.   At least there is one clear story this season and they've stayed pretty focused (well, by Horror Story standards) on it.  So far.    Loving Leslie Jordan. "Ooh that's my Uber!".

Ryan Murphy said there's a twist coming in Episode 6.  Hope it doesn't go completely off the rails, then.

I figured out that this edition of AHS is Ryan Murphy and company trying to "M. Night" fans of the show this year. They have very cleverly "dropped and planted" various red herrings and clues, (both on and off screen). I've read some interviews and Murphy and others say "don't even try to figure it out, you won't" and "just when you think you know what's going on, you'll be blown away at the change".

So I guess we have to decide if we are smarter than they are. As for fast changes in the story, some of that can be attributed to the fact it's only 8 episodes this year. Another noticeable thing is the secrecy of the project and no advertising from FOX almost up until the premiere. There are a few hints:

1) One week before Roanoke started, they premiered Lady Gaga's 1st new song from her new album on Scream Queens. Gaga is almost unrecognizable in AHS. She doesn't get screen credit until 4th episode. The name of Gaga's new song is "Perfect Illusion". (Then her next semi-country single is released within a week or two of "Illusion"...seems kind of fast but could be marketing).

2) There are two posters for this season, with a similar clue in both. The bumper poster is a large tree, very wide, showing the roots spreading underground. The online poster shows a woman, (can't tell who it is), holding a rosary but it has a stick figure of a man hanging where the crucifix should be that actually resembles the roots of the tree from the first poster.

3) As several people have previously mentioned, this whole "dramatic re-enactment" should technically be everything we are seeing, the couple, the murders, all the previous owners, Cricket...if you believe that then the only thing that's real are the interviews, the uber driver interview, the producer's voice...

I'm sure there are more I have missed and I don't know if I should go back and re-watch to find more clues. One thing I'm sure of is the wig masters and hair people for this must have busted their butts. For all the people that love or hate the Murphy "machine", I am glad how he continues to hire openly gay actors and also, it seems, very gay friendly actors, crew, etc. If I was in LA I would certainly appreciate being in his "gay talent pool"; he must have at least 60-70 actors that are openly gay that he helped start their careers and/or continues to employ. I was looking at the cast for AHS/Roanoke, and although I haven't been able to recognize him yet, Chaz Bono is even in the cast.

Lastly, even though I've only seen it from re-runs, how can you really not appreciate AHS when they use Shirley Jones, David Cassidy and Partridge Family singing "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat"? Is this a clue too??

Steve C., you got a couple of things wrong...

1. It has been reported that there will be 10 episodes of AHS this season, not 8, although only 8 are currently listed on IMDB.

2. Gaga gets screen credit beginning with episode #2, because that's the first episode in which her character appears.

3. Chaz Bono was in the first episode. He was one of the hillbillies.

Personally, I believe that episode #6 will mark the end of the "reenactment" portion of the story, and the merging of the "real life" and "reenactment" characters' stories. I also read somewhere that there may be another reason for the short season. A possible surprise second-part season 6 later this winter.

Thanks Luscious, like I said, so many theories on the plot or story line ??? Can we outsmart Murphy and his writers? It's a nice diversion like a game of Jeopardy. And you too, I agree, could be right on so much stuff.

We'll see if any of our BWW avid readers or actors or authors/writers can out fox them??

BTW, another big movie coming soon is said to be another M. Night Shamalyn (?) super twisted shocking mystery; it's called "Split" and all I know is Betty Buckley and James McAvoy star in it. (All this spooky stuff in time for the "blood moon" of Halloween. American Horror Story Season 6

A very short preview with Cheyenne for next week that hints at the "twist".

This week's episode was off the hook, brutal and genuinely scary! Best episode so far, with tour de force performances by Peter Evans and Frances Conroy! And it looks like next week's episode (#6) will mark a turning point in the story.

That's Doris Kearns Goodwin. She used to be on The Colbert Report all the time. It's interesting because she is always such an engaging firecracker of a speaker. But give her a script and she turns completely dull and flat. Since she was playing herself, I can't imagine they directed her to play it that way.

I'm enjoying this season so far. There is a definite consistent plot, ridiculous as some of it is. At least we are not being drawn here and there, from unresolved plot to unresolved plot that has nothing to do with the main story.

I guessed early on when the last name of Mott was mention as being the owner of the house that it would connect with Dandy in Freak Show- and this episode confirmed it! LOL

It is quite interesting to see Doris Kearns Goodwin in the same episode as Evan Peters and the "purple c*ckhead" (those must have quite a history too)

And yes, I think changes are coming soon. Cheyenne Jackson tweeted some very vague news about Wednesday....

What if EVERYTHING we've seen so far, from Season 1 - Season 6, has just been one giant reenactment like the way Roanoke is currently showing us? That would explain why the same actors have been seen in every season yet there's connects to every season and no one seems to notice that multiple people throughout history have the exact same face.

Maybe the film crew have uncovered links to all these brutal events throughout history and have commissioned a huge dramatic reenactment to prove how their all linked and that's all that AHS has been so far. What we're watching isn't really what we're watching?

Lily Rabe and Adina Porter could also be actors during the interview stages, that explains why they've appeared in previous seasons.

I don't know if previous poster Plannie, is on the right track but this MTV interview with RM certainly hints at something that's quite different in character and story plot lines...(saying something has never been done before is a HuUUUgE promise to make).

He makes it sound so cryptic but that's publicity. If last week's episode was any indication, Finn Wittrock is certainly giving new meaning to "chewing the scenery". Well we won't have long to wait.

Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson are back too; let's just hope they're not chopped to pieces already.
