Sirius XM- On Broadway

I don't know who on here has satellite radio but for those who do Channel 34 on Sirius, and Channel 75 on XM are the "On Broadway" channel and I've fallen in love with it.

My family car has is under a week old and in the time the I've been to the station I've heard...

I'm aware, I was just telling people about it. I wasn't announcing some new radio station, just making people aware if they didn't know about it, like me.

Yeah, the station plays a good variety of stuff, without focusing too much on the intensely popular.

On my Sirius radio, Broadway is Channel 77...

Oh, I have XM and it's 75, maybe Sirius changed the station.

I was an XM subscriber pre-merger, and I HATE the Sirius/XM incarnation of On Broadway.

I'm really disappointed that they canned John von Soosten. Even though his voice was admittedly not the most exciting to listen to, he was passionate, knowledgeable, and interactive. I used to love the daily themed playlists (which were submitted by listeners), the Downstage Center interviews, and the interesting facts and comments he offered in between song sets (which were done live on air). Rudetsky is tolerable only in small doses for me (as was Andy Probst on XM, TBH), and unfortunately, I find his program annoying most of the time.

I also hate how they've seemingly pared down the potential playlists. XM played a lot of old and new things as well as obscure titles, but Sirius/XM seems to have narrowed its focus on contemporary shows and popular classics; I can still hear something like Hello, Dolly! or Guys and Dolls mixed in with Avenue Q and In the Heights, but I really doubt I'm going to be able to turn the station on and hear something from Tovarich or Subways are For Sleeping any time soon. (Wow, this makes me sound like I'm 50. I'm in my 20s, really. I just like some greater variety. Yeah, yeah, CRY MOAR, I know.)

YES, it reminded me of old NYC am radio late-night (WNEW)!

"XM played a lot of old and new things as well as obscure titles..." This was, imo, what made the channel a treasure -- you'd hear long-forgotten but familiar songs, as well as songs from shows that you'd always wanted to know/hear, but couldn't easily find. Geez.

I feared that the merger would result in gravitation toward the center -- maybe they'll loosen up with some listener feedback.

My only complaint about Sirius, and I have had it for a few years now, is that they don't rerun their interviews enough so you could hear them again. So many amazing interviews and you never know if/when they are gonna be rebroadcast. I emailed Seth Rudetsky and even he didn't know when his interviews would be heard again. *sigh*. I wish they'd replay alot of the past two or three years worth of interviews and POST a schedule on the website.

Posting a schedule might actually attract and increase the listener base!

But, wait: it's by subscription, so now you don't have to actually DO anything to attract listeners. Once we subscribe, they've got our money, and we take what we get.

I could not agree more. Seth Rudetsky is annoying and pretentious and John Von Soosten is sorely missed.

At least they brought back "On the Aisle."

BTW, if you have Sirius/XM, listen to "On the Aisle" May 29 (and the teerrestrial radio program "Footlight Parade" on July 24.) It's a theme my wife and I suggested: Dreams and Visions.

I got a free three month subscription to Sirius when I bought a car a couple weeks ago. I feel I'd like the channel a lot more if there was a lot less Seth Rudetsky.

It is channel 72 out here. Congrats on your new car and your new access to Sirius-XM. The Broadway station is good especially on weekends. Seth Rudetsky gets very old very fast. In the last few months he has been particularly obnoxious with his self promotion. So much so that I am finally considering a alternative.

He's also kind of dumb a lot of the time when it comes to theatre. I don't expect every person working in theatre to know everything, but his lack of knowledge and the things he gets wrong really surprise me.

Yes. He gets so much stuff wrong. But says it with such a know it all attitude that someone that doesn't know better believes him. And his constant bitching about certain shows . YES. WE GET THAT MAMMA MIA DID NOT HIRE HIM!

I don't get that sense about him. Yes, he's an acquired taste to some, but... all in all, he's a very knowledgeable person about music and the theatre. I don't think he's a know-it-all....but rather he knows a lot and knows a lot of people involved in musical theatre. I feel that he's Broadway's biggest supporter/cheerleader. Now, Julie James knows a lot about the theatre, but she tends to over-praise to the nth degree. Love Christine Pedi.

Yesterday someone had to correct him because he thought Violet would be eligible for Best Musical.

Julie James is annoying, too. The only person on there who doesn't bug me is Christine Pedi.

I was able to deal with him being annoying and wrong on tons of stuff... but it is his self promotion that has really gotten out of control.
