Variety speculates that Dirty Dancing is eyeing the Neil Simon Theatre for Fall, '09, with the Nederlander Organization possibly scheduling an interim booking to follow Hairspray.

Dirty Dancing is a much better idea. I think the charm of this current revival of Hair would be lost entirely in the Neil Simon. It's too big.

I am skeptical as to whether or not I should check out the tour. The clips I saw of Dirty Dancing looked terrible. :/

Its horrible and i wish it would leave the West End and open that theatre up for a 'Real' play or musical rather than this cheap lazy production.Im so sorry you guys in the states will have to endure this nonsense on Broadway.

Dirty Dancing's reviews in Chicago were pretty awful (no, I haven't seen the show to judge for myself). But might this give the money people some pause before sending it to Broadway? Just asking.

The critics could crucify it but the audience will come flocking, this is one show that does not give a damn what the critics say, its a cash cow.

The reviews here in the UK weren't great but tickets are still flying

Hair is rumored for the Shubert.

I saw Dirty Dancing in London this past summer, and while I do think that some parts were awful, I generally did like the show, and I think that people will go to see it just because it is Dirty Dancing. That's why I did, and for the most part, I was pleasantly surprised

I'd have to agree with famefan...I saw the West End show last Christmas and for those who are fans of the movie....or even the music...I think it can be a fun time at the theater...just like the movie, we know this is not Pulitzer worthy, but it's good fun!

"and I think that people will go to see it just because it is Dirty Dancing."

In other words, corporate tools who only respond to titles and brands they have heard of. So glad to know we are getting more sh*t on Broadway that is "fun".

One could play in the Circle in the Square and there are some limited run's teaters for Dirty Dancing to go into since it is coming anytime in 2009

I hear the dancing is sexy. So, I guess that whatever the critics say, it will happen. And I'll go to see the sexy dancing (all right, go ahead and shoot -- it may be crap, but I have below-the-belt considerations to deal with -- just human, I guess).

You know, I have never been bothered by a movie to musical transformation. I think that's fine, its great, whatever- because most of the time, they add something cool to the movie when they translate it to the stage.

But this show, the concept especially, just makes me really angry. I could never call this art, and honestly I think this is one of the worst ideas for a Broadway show ever. If there is one show that doesn't deserve to be on Broadway, its got to be this one.

The Shubert is way too big for Hair, let alone the Neil Simon. And about Dirty Dancing, even with bad reviews, I still think people will go see it(i.e. The Little Mermaid) because it's such a beloved classic.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

The Shubert and the Neil Simon have almost the exact same number of seats. The Shubert has 1,441 and the Neil Simon has 1,428, though the Neil Simon has just a single balcony and the Shubert has two. But the Shubert has more foot traffic/walk-up because of its prime location.

I think Hair should wait out for the Hirschfeld. To me that's their ideal space. It's big enough that they could make money there and small enough that even the very back of the mezzanine could feel like part of the show.

And does anything I have Schoenfeld after All My Sons or is eyeing the Jacobs after 13 finally closes? I don't remember.

I am so sad this is crossing over to Broadway. This has been running in Toronto for a year, and having seen it, I think they are better off running Hairspray at a loss. I cannot see this show doing well. Having loved the movie, I had high expectations for this show, but it was just not enjoyable.
