Tony Committee meets today to dicuss some spring shows Tony elligibility. Also, on this board there was talk of Karen Ziemba having a leading role, do you think the producers see it the same way? She has a much better chance in the featured actress category, but then again Lea Michele was put into the leading actress category. Discuss!

If I were a producer, I would personally put actresses into the featured category as much as I could because leading is tough this year. (and winner as I've said numerous times, wrapped up pretty much.)

I don't know which categories, if any, the respective producers are petitioning each actor for, but here are some guesses.

For JOURNEY'S END, Hugh Dancy, Boyd Gaines, and Jefferson Mays are above the title. My guess is that at least Jefferson Mays will be ruled Featured, with Boyd Gaines also very likely being ruled Featured.

For PRELUDE TO A KISS, Annie Parisse, Alan Tudyk, and John Mahoney are above the title. I'll bet that John Mahoney will be ruled Featured, given his character's absense for the majority of Act I. Plus this way, Mahoney and Tudyk won't be competing.

For THE COAST OF UTOPIA, the only performers that I see being ruled as Leading are Brian F. O'Byrne and Ethan Hawke.

It's a good thing they didn't petition Jennifer Ehle to be leading. They might as well engrave her name on the featured actress in a play Tony now.

EDIT: I am a little surprised at the decision to keep Boyd Gaines as leading. Updated On: 4/12/07 at 05:07 PM

Does this mean that if one aspect of one part of the trilogies is off, it'll count against the whole of it?

Technically yes; though one aspect won't have as much weight as one aspect of any other show. Also, all of the aspects of all 3 parts are astounding, so it's really not an issue, lol.

"The shows discussed at the afternoon meeting included Translations, Journey's End, Prelude to a Kiss and the three parts of Tom Stoppard's Coast of Utopia.

The rulings follow:

All three parts of Tom Stoppard's Coast of Utopia trilogy — Voyage, Shipwreck and Salvage — will be considered as one play in the Best Play category. In that show at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, Brían F. O'Byrne will be eligible for nomination in the Leading Actor in a Play category.

Both Jefferson Mays (Journey's End) and John Mahoney (Prelude to a Kiss) will be eligible for nomination in the Best Featured Actor in a Play category.

All other decisions were consistent with the opening-night credits. That is, only actors whose names appear above the title are eligible for nomination in the Leading Actor/Actress categories. Producers must petition the Administration Committee in order to change actors' eligibility status."

You obviously did not see Susan Lynch's performance in TRANSLATIONS or Dana Ivey's performance in BUTLEY, nor have any of us seen Jan Maxwell's performance in CORAM BOY.

Yes, I'm well-aware that TRANSLATIONS and BUTLEY will have been closed for some time by Tony time, and that many of the voters will have not seen their performances (yet by some miracle Michele Pawk won a few years ago?), but UTOPIA will also be closed by Tony time.

For me, all of the women in UTOPIA blended together. UTOPIA is about the men.

bwaygal1, what are you going to do if, by some VERY SLIM chance, Ebersole does not win the Tony this year? I pretty much agree that she has the best chances, but stranger things have happened in the past. I fear for your health if she loses. re: Tony Committee Meets April 12th

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I did see both of those performances, and thought they were both very overrated. How can you say Jennifer Ehle blends together with the rest of the women? Her performance in Shipwreck was OUTSTANDING. I will give you the fact that none of us have seen Maxwell yet, and now also apparently Pinkins will be considered featured. So I guess there is a chance that Ehle won't win. But if she loses, it won't be to Ivey or Lynch.

Wasn't Ethan Hawke expected to be considered in the Leading Actor category? Oh well.

Yes, I am a little surprised by this as well. I guess because he's really only the lead in Voyage, whereas O'Byrne is the lead in both Shipwreck and Salvage, they figured his part is more featured than anything.
