Downtown, the premiere of Gone With the Wind is taking place while in the suburbs the cream of Atlantas Jewish crop are preparing for the Jewish social event of the season, Ballyhoo. World War II has just begun in Europe, but no one has time for that. Ballyhoo approaches and Lala needs a date. But not just any date; he must be able to rub elbows with the social elite. In short, he must fit in with the right kind.THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO is a bittersweet, romantic tale that deals in a very personal way with being Jewish in the South, exposing the prejudices that existed between German-American Jews and the other kind. While pride, prejudice and the denial of ones heritage are at the core of Ballyhoo, the story is at heart a love story, prompting one Atlanta critic to write this irresistible love story bestows the gift of a truly, deeply, happy ending. (Dan Hulbert, Atlanta Journal-Constitution)Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Broadway Play, Alfred Uhry (DRIVING MISS DAISY) is the first American playwright to win the "Triple Crown" of dramatic writing: Tony Award (2), an Oscar, and a Pulitzer Prize.THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO is directed by Lisa Ponder and stars Bailey Glasgow, Donna Williamson, Lori Edwards, Todd Ponder, Jason Bearden, Katie Milligan, and Ryan Gerrells. Reaching for the American dream while adjusting to living under prejudice is exposed by Alfred Uhry's 'The Last Night of Ballyhoo' at South City Theatre. This Tony award winning play is a touching, relatable, and revealing look at the cost of acceptance. The story peels back the layers to expose the complicated dynamics of a Jewish American family living in Atlanta in the 1930's.
