From the newly formed Gale Theatre Company, in collaboration with the City of Austin and Bottle Alley Theatre Company, comes FLORENCE. Directed by Katherine Wilkinson, choreographed by Celina Chapin, and created by the Gale Ensemble, Florence tells the story of Florence Lawrence, America's "First Movie Star."
Through dance, video, and physical theater, Florence explores fame, old hollywood, and what it truly means to be "remembered". Expect to see actors literally swinging from the historic rafters. Also expect to see song, dance, shakespeare, Kanye West, exhaustion, chaos, glamor, mess, comedy, and much much more.
Florence is a site specific theatre work created and performed in the Sparky Park Substation (3701 Grooms St, Austin, TX). The performance runs December 6th-8th & 12th-15th at 8pm. Tickets are $20 regular admission, $10 for 25 & under. FYI, the performance will be heated!
Trained in physical theatre and dance, Wilkinson and Chapin (Gale Theatre's co-founders) have brought the rigor of their training to the Gale Theatre Co rehearsal room. The actors have spent months strengthening their bodies and sharpening their physical instincts to bring Florence to life. Gale Theatre Co is dedicated to making work that is aesthetically arresting, emotionally compelling, physically daring, and dedicated to the unending power of live performance.Videos
