As a new year approaches, the countdown to Canada's 150th anniversary continues. Inspired by the distinctness of Canadian history, Yury Vasiliev recounts the country's past in his historical fiction novel, "Saga of Carus: Under the Northern Sky."

The story chronicles the adventures of a young man who arrives in the New World in 1804, the area that eventually becomes modern day Canada.

Through the character's interactions with a wide range of individuals from locals to First Nations people and experiences such as buffalo hunting and fighting the Battle of York, he witnesses Canadian history in the making.

"The adventures are based on extensive research that I conducted about the history of Canada including the people who lived there, important events, and the geography as it changed through time," Vasiliev said. "I wrote this novel in honour of Canada's upcoming 150th anniversary as a way to pay tribute to the country that has brought me so much joy and embraced me with open arms as a newcomer."

Readers will experience the highs and lows that made this beloved country what it is today.
