Webber Announces Plans for New Reality Talent Show
The famed composer has already participated in 'Over the Rainbow,' 'I'll Do Anything,' 'Any Dream Will Do' and 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria' - all for the BBC. Webber talked about the shows and their effect on the popularity of musical theatre on 'The Michael Ball Show.'
"When we looked for Dorothy, we had 10,000 girls. There was a few hundred really good ones. 18,17 and 16-year-olds doing consummate performances," he said.
"We heard a lot of 'Hairspray', a lot of 'Sweet Charity'. We asked, 'Where did you get all this from?' And they explained that it was after they saw the Maria programme, they thought they would start a drama class at school. There's been a sea change."
Webber hopes to change the format of the program, though nothing definitive has been announced.
"I always said we would do three shows, but now we've done four," Webber said. "It's interesting. It's got to be something that TV audience know about. Something like Eliza in 'My Fair Lady'. But I think it should be a bloke next time. We've had far too many girls."
