WABC-TV to air 'South Pacific' special on 5/25

Lincoln Center Theater's critically acclaimed production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC  will be the subject of a 30 minute TV special  A SALUTE TO "RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S SOUTH PACIFIC," to be broadcast on Saturday evening, May 17 at 7:30 pm on WABC-TV, with a rebroadcast scheduled for Sunday, May 25 at 5:30am.

 

A SALUTE TO "RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN"S SOUTH PACIFIC", which will be hosted by 5pm Eyewitness News anchor Sade Baderinwa, will give viewers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the smash hit musical.   The special will feature interviews with the show's stars Kelli O'Hara, Paulo Szot, Matthew Morrison, Danny Burstein and Loretta Ables Sayre, director Bartlett Sher; Mary Rodgers Guettel (daughter of composer Richard Rodgers) as well as rarely seen footage of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and performance footage featuring the musical's original stars Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza.

 

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN"S SOUTH PACIFIC opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Thursday, April 3 and was recently nominated for 8 Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical Revival and 8 Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Musical Revival.  The original cast recording of the Lincoln Center Theater production will be released by Sony Masterworks on May 27.
