During the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast yesterday, American Horror Story scribe Douglas Petrie revealed that the next season of the FX anthology will be set in a spooky carnival theme. No further details of the upcoming season were announced.

When questioned whether the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk drama would focus on a rumored "carnival" theme, Petrie confirmed, sharing, "Very roughly, that's the idea."

Murphy, who serves as showrunner for the hit series, had previously announced that season four would be set in the 1950s. While it has been confirmed that the series star Jessica Lange would return for the next installment, no additional casting announcements have been made.

Last season's cast included Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Patti LuPone, Christine Ebersole, Evan Peters,Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Roberts, Alexandra Breckenridge and Jamie Brewer.

The "carnival" theme follows three previous seasons of the series which included Murder House, Asylum and Coven. The next season is set to debut on FX this October.
