The Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen(1828-1906), referred to as "the God Father" of modern drama, created 25 sets of drama works with different types, such as An Enemy of the People, Ghosts, A Doll's House, The Wild Duck, The Master Builder and so on. The drama Peer Gynt is the work with most cultural connotation and philosophical details among all his works. This drama has explored the major philosophical proposition that what life is for and how to live a life by the licentious, adventurous and unsteady life of dude Peer Gynt. The writer successfully created a complicated character with multi-personalities and presented the grotesque and colorful style of social life in that period of time through Peer's adventure and street life.

This drama received strong focus from the people as soon as it was staged and also aroused discussion among critics and researchers of different schools. This drama has explicit characteristics of satirical comedy, even though the theme is as serious as life, and it is the classical work everlasting on international drama stage.
