One of Bay Street's newest initiatives, The Workshops, continues in February with a show that'll have audiences rolling in the aisles. Come forget about the winter cold for a few hours as Bay Street Theatre presents THE CHALKS, AN AMERICAN FAMILY IN THREE CHORDS on Saturday, February 27th at 8pm.

THE CHALKS, AN AMERICAN FAMILY IN THREE CHORDS, is a hilarious musical about the lives of three sisters who have spent their careers as a trio-- performing, touring, and bailing one another out of trouble and even jail. Fresh from their ‘tour bus arrest' after an altercation at a recent concert; Judeen, Judelle and Belva Chalk must perform a one-time-only ‘Community Service' show before being allowed to leave town. The girls bicker, tattle-tell and fist fight on stage as they share stories of glitterized ankle monitors, sado-masochistic affairs, and more. The Chalk sisters take the term ‘dysfunctional family' to a whole new level!

THE CHALKS is presented by Bay Street's THE WORKSHOPS, sponsored in part by the Lucille Lortel Foundation. "The Workshops brings artists, writers, producers and audiences together to collaborate on the development of a new piece of theater. This shared experience is integral to the understanding of the process and is invaluable to all involved," says Murphy Davis, Bay Street's Co-Artistic Director. In the case of THE CHALKS, the creators are also the performers, with book, music and lyrics by Mary Brienza, Kathryn Markey and Leenya Rideout-the Chalk sisters. Thomas Caruso returns to Bay Street as Director, having recently directed Bay Street's January Workshop, Murder For Two. Caruso, whose credits include Associate Director of Bombay Dreams and Follies on Broadway, as well as, Assistant Director of the National Tour of Master Class by Terrence McNally, also happens to be a part time resident of Sag Harbor. Mr. Caruso, along with the show's creators, will work on the show for several days before presenting THE CHALKS in whatever shape it may be in-from a simple reading on book, to a full performance complete with song and dance numbers. The audience is then invited to stay after the show to take part in this developmental process by asking questions of the producers and performers.

THE CHALKS will be performed on Saturday, February 27th at 8pm. Tickets are $15 and will be sold at the door starting at 7:30pm.

While the Bay Street box office is closed, tickets for all events can be purchased on the night of the performance. For questions or more information call the administrative office at 631-725-0818 or visit www.baystreet.org.
