The innovative Harlem based, The Movement Theatre Company [TMTC], presents the Fourth Annual TMTC Harlem Nights: Monologue SLAM #ThatsMyJAM on April 11, 2016 at 7pm. The SLAM challenges performers to create compelling monologues crafted from their favorite song lyrics as they vie for the title of Monologue SLAM Champ! This is the only event of it's kind in Harlem and for the last four years, TMTC has organized this fun-filled community building event that showcases the talents of some of New York's hottest up-and-coming talent. Not only does this competition show off the creative skills of the actors, it also fosters relationships between TMTC and local Harlem businesses such as Silvana, where the SLAM has been held for the last three years. The SLAM provides a much-needed platform for young artists of color to meet leading decision makers in the entertainment industry as a panel of industry insiders are selected to judge the competition and witness new talent they could potentially work with. This year's judges include Tiffany Vega (Hi-Arts/Hip Hop Theater Festival), Jocelyn Bioh (Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), and two surprise judges from the tv/film industry!

TMTC Harlem Nights: Monologue SLAM #ThatsMyJAM

Monday, April 11th at 7pm

Silvana- 300 West 116th Street, NY, NY 10026

Entry: $5 cash at the door

"The SLAM was important to me because of all the connections I got to make. Connections that lead to auditions, workshops, readings and even a web series. More importantly, some of the relationships that started on that night are relationships I can see lasting for years," says Christopher Livingston, a past winner, and star in the hit show Party People.

"TMTC is so special because they walk the walk. There's so much talk in the American Theatre about 'ethnic diversity' and 'reaching out to young people', but a lot of those theatres don't actually have people of color or young people MAKING those decisions. That's not so at TMTC," says Reggie White, star of I and You, and a past SLAM winner.

TMTC is no stranger to achieving success in helping emerging artists of color. Their past successes include their breakout NY Times lauded production of Bintou, and their program Harlem Nights which has featured work by playwrights Christina Anderson (Aetna New Voices Fellow/Hartford Stage), Dominique Morriseau (Steinberg Playwright Award) and Harrison David Rivers (McKnight Fellow) and actors Danielle Brooks (Orange is The New Black, The Color Purple), and Mykal Kilgore (Motown, The Wiz: Live!).

About The Movement Theatre Company: Founded in 2007 by graduates and students at NYU, The Movement continues to transform the face of American theater by creating opportunities for artists of color to develop and produce work that highlights both the collective and diverse human experience. www.themovementtheatrecompany.org
