THREE PHANTOMS IN CONCERT Set for 4/6 at The Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts

For the first time ever on stage of The Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, three Broadway stars who have shared the same title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, join forces for an evening of incredible song and music while performing with members of the Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra.

Cris Groenendaal, Mark Jacoby and Craig Schulman have collectively worn the 'Phantom' mask a few thousand times over a 10-year period. Each tenor brings an average of 20 years of Broadway experience to the stage as well as major roles in numerous regional theatres, television and opera.

Described as an Evening of MASK-uline Broadway Entertainment, Three Phantoms In Concert will take the stage of The Edgerton Center on Saturday, April 6 (2013) at 8pm as an integral part of 2013 Discovery Gala, with proceeds benefitting the Sacred heart University Scholarship Programs.

The evening's program will feature solo numbers from the shows that made Groenendaal, Jacoby and Schulman the stars that they have become. In addition, there will be duets and trios, all from the Broadway male repertoire from such musicals as LES MISERABLES, Miss Saigon and Phantom Of The Opera, and may include numbers from Guys And Dolls, Annie Get Your Gun, Kiss Me Kate, South Pacific, The Secret Garden, Jesus Christ, Superstar, Damn Yankees, and others.
Cris Groenendaal's Broadway credits include Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd, the role of George in Sunday in the Park with George, Rizzolli in Passion and Miles Gloriosus in the 1996 revival of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. He originated the role of Andre in the Broadway production of Phantom and went on to play the role of the Phantom for 860 performances.

For two and-a-half years Mark Jacoby played the title role in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, a role he had created to critical acclaim in the American National tour. He received a 2001 Drama Desk nomination for his performance Off-Broadway as the Playwright in Enter the Guardsman, a performance heralded by The New York Times as "Just right in every way." He also appeared as Baron von Gaigern in Grand Hotel on Broadway, Oscar Jaffee in the Goodspeed Opera revival of On The Twentieth Century (Connecticut Drama Critics' Award: Best Actor in a Musical), Guido Contini in the Chicago premiere of Nine (Joseph Jefferson Award: Best Actor in a musical), Robert In Robert and Elisabeth (the inaugural production of the Paper Mill Playhouse), and John Jasper in the First National Tour of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Craig Schulman is the only actor in the world to have portrayed three of the greatest musical theatre roles: The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and the title role in Frank Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde. According to Schulman, "The Phantom is my favorite role thus far and certainly one of the most demanding. For one thing, it's an extraordinary vocal challenge, which I love. There's so much intense singing, and you have to maintain your voice in optimal condition for eight performances a week. There is lots of intense emotion; a wonderful acting challenge as well." He holds the world record for his role of Valjean - nearly 2,000 performances. Regional theatre roles include Che in Evita, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Archibald in The Secret Garden and Father in Children of Eden.

Three Phantoms In Concert is scheduled Saturday, April 6 (2013) at 8pm at The Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Sacred Heart University, located at 5151 Park Avenue in Fairfield, Connecticut just minutes from exit 47 of the Merritt Parkway.
